Hey GP. I know a decent amount about my computer yet there's this entire field of study as to how those things work beneath the surface of consumer products that I remain largely ignorant about.
I've had an Apple screen for years for my main graphics work. I do more web design than print, yet I always check my CMYK values whenever anything goes on paper. I know I can trust those values anywhere.
But all this is food for thought and definitely worth the crash course toward LCD enlightenment. - Thanks.

And Kwiz, I really do like your DP6 design at this juncture. I just hope that I'm seeing it properly.
Success is just one more plugin away! And happiness is as close as your next upgrade.
I've also used a calibrater before on a CRT, but on LCD, I've not tried. Hell, I've got two LCDs at work that I CANNOT get the colors to be the same no matter how hard I try.
I bet really good LCDs are probably much better calibrated or calibrate-able, but I know for sure that what I get printed out and what I see on my screen hardly ever match. I've not looked too deep into LCD calibration so that is something I might just go read about for fun.
Although, with the little free time I have, I am starting a new iPhone audio app so it might be awhile.
bOing - I think that motu's trying to answer our prayers for more 'snappier' performance by lightening the video load, with the 2D retrocity... There are bits where they do try to use 2 colors to mimic a 3D look - with the upper and lower bevel being lighter and darker shades of gray, for example.
What's that expression "Be careful what you ask for, cuz you may just get it..." ?

I'm not buying this argument. With the speed of our computers and video cards these days the tiniest fraction of a fraction longer it might take to load an image with more colours is extremely negligible, I would think. For these portions of the DP interface which are PNG images, I would hardly think that there is any humanly noticeable difference in loading a 3D image versus a 1 or 2 colour image... and even more so once the image is loaded. Snappier? I don't believe it.
I have to agree based on my limited computer experience, Zed.
You'd think that once the image files are loaded into RAM, there'd not be a discernible difference.
Surely the code tweaks and rewrites involved the mixing/recording/playback engine/s.
Maybe. Seems like it to me from what I've heard in user reports.
Right on, Zed. I totally agree on this point. I wonder how difficult it would be for MOTU to bring back the 3D look. Man, I hate to lose that. I can't tell you how much I enjoy it.
