And especially with any kind of modern editing style, where the video cuts every 1/2 second... it's just not the most practical command.

Hi.
The function I meant was ¨detect cuts¨ which I find to be an excellent feature, and just that to choose a section in the timeline to find cuts in a section is great. ( In logic you can choose the whole movie or just a selected section)
But no Logic can not detect differences in versions, that´s unique for dp with xml, which is Very handy indeed.

Just my 2 cents - but automating that simplistic a level of obvious editing (marking) for compositional purposes seems overly dumbed down and not particularly useful. Kind of like having a loud alarm go off every 30 seconds to remind you time is passing.

I seriously question the value of coding that into a DAW. It's a waste of resources on all levels and bloats a program. Now XML to track changes editors make is something that is extremely useful. You really want to check that out in DP.

I don't know how it would be implemented but I could really use markers for each track/take, even if it was literally a marker with no text. I sometimes work with long electronic improvs and would like to be able to mark the best bits per track -and per take for that matter. You could mark good or bad vocal lines for example when you're doing several vocal passes and planning to comp later. You could set markers on the fly during recording (saving time later) where you know a line is particularly good (or bad) for each pass. As it is now I usually do that with pencil and paper.

Hey Phil,

You can add comments in the track for the takes. Wouldn't that work? Might be nice if the comments changed with each take, that would be a better solution for you, I think.

Indeed. I also just name tracks and takes with longer descriptive names too, like 'LesPaul/U87room' and that sort of thing.
But yeah, I kinda of need it per take as well as per track to really be useful. And having it right in the timeline, especially if there are many 'markers' would make it way more convenient in locating those points later in a long file.

I don't use lyrics in DP but do they show up in tracks? Just a thought that perhaps, using lyrics might also give you a per take comment option. That might not work at all and I'm guessing it won't.

New feature...

+1

I really think Markers should be overhauled. For this thing you want, and for many others.
I've suggested before that there should be:

- Different Marker kinds (comments, thoughts, Form markers, etc.)
- Markers should have different takes
- If there were different kind of markers, they could be color-coded

In general, ALL elements of the Conductor Track should feature different takes. As of now, only Tempo has this feature.

A lot of convenience and power could easily be added to DP with more functional markers.

The problem is, you might have Drums on take 4, keyboards on take 2, etc. So which set of markers would be shown? What could help are track-specific markers.

Yeah. Some kinds would have to be take-independent, just like they are now. These could be "General Markers".
But others could be, like you say, track specific. But then the Comments field should have an option to allow/disallow "sticking" the field to the take.

This could be tricky to implement smartly. But I know the MOTU boys would come up with a BRILLIANT solution... the MOTU way.
I just hope they put it in their to-do list.

How cool would it be if they took this full thread as a guide and implemented EVERYTHING we've asked for? :boohoo:

It's just that now that they seem to have gained a lot of momentum with DP7, it would be a good time to make DP even better. I mean jaw-dropping great. The envy of the rest of the DAWs (it is like this already in many respects, though).
Maybe they could hire another genius programmer to help out, full time. It would be a nice way for MOTU to reinvest this extra revenue DP7 has generated.

Waaaaay to long a thread to read it all, so apologies if I'm being redundant, but......

I know some have mentioned having the buffer setting displayed. In addition, couldnt it be saved with each project? Sometimes, if I close one job where I've been working with a low buffer (say, doing vocals) and then open another one where I need a high buffer (to mix), it opens up, then I have to go to "Hardware settings" and.....well, you all know.

It's not a biggie, I confess, but it would save a little time. You know, like those keyboard commands?.....

I only have one request. Would be great if MOTU provided some machine-farm capabailities, ie, audio and MIDI networking between multiple macs, hosting plugins on other machines to get more cpu power, etc..
