Leaving aside some of the functional issues to be resolved (plug-in compatibility, bugs), which statement below best describes your opinion of the new graphic look introduced with DP6?

F) I don't like it. DP5's graphic look was fine and MOTU should have left it alone.

The vertical zoom in tracks overview might alleviate some of that.

Having given fonts a thought I agree with you about the size, they're probably the same. But they appear smaller to me, maybe due to the lack of graphics surrounding them.

Yeah, that's an improvement (thanks MOTU). I was more referring to the counter GUI in this case, sorry about the mix-up. And, as mentioned in the previous post, the smallness of the fonts may depend on that.

There's gotta be a font file in that app. maybe compiled though. But if you could find it, you could switch it out for anything you wanted: Zapf Dingbats even. :)
Success is just one more plugin away! And happiness is as close as your next upgrade.

Found quite a few issues with the new GUI and I've only been using it for about an hour :(

My biggest UI issue is with the mixer so far ... I can no longer read the full I/O names in the mixer board ... they have taken away even more of what little space there was in there with the little arrows (which IMHO are not needed). All of my interface I/O's look like TDI... 1-2, ugg. I dread going through and renaming them all as I don't know how older projects are going to handle this and I really really don't want to have to go through a hundred projects and re-select all my I/O outputs if it doesn't handle things well.

Has anyone tried this? Am I asking for trouble here or should I deal with the fact that I'll have to physically click on each channel strip to see where it's going every time :( :( :( I do some pretty large projects here ... the one that is open has about 126 tracks right now.

The blinding white light of DP6 leaves a purple spot after staring at the screen for hours, Amplidood's GUI MODS are a must for anyone who stares at DP6 for more then a few hours at a time.

Just installed DP6 and I have to say that fonts in six are somehow ugly, hard to read. I don't like the new mixer window either. Otherwise DP6 rocks!

Unfortunate news, Gerkster (may I call you Gerkster? I like the sound of it). I spent a great deal of time tweaking all my send buss, track, aux channel, mixer and even MIDI destination names a while back so that they were all eminently legible in the TO and mixer. Bummer. I agree that when space is at a premium, such as is the case with the narrow mixer view, little arrow thingies are hardly necessary or justifiable, IMHO of course.

I've tried it out for a couple of hours now. And as a matter of fact, I feel lost in most areas. It seems as if the major news in DP6 is actually the GUI. I'm just sitting here, staring at the windows, paralyzed, fumbling in the darkness.

Others have said just about what I would say. I shall not spend time trying to find the right words and expressions.

No easy way to get another window row as in DP5 where you just grab the handle at the top. Do one always have to doubleclick the free space and then snap it into the CW? That is if it hasn't been there before of course. I've search a lot in the manual, maybe my tiredness was the cause of failure. But this tiredness arose from the strenuous task which is called DP6.

In DP6, you grab the handle at the bottom.

Thanks! :)

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but this may acually be an improvent.

I wish you could open up the hardware preferences on the main screen instead of having to open it up in the studio settings.
I also miss the big zoom buttons on the upper left-hand corner of the sequence editor.

I'll be attempting my first real mix session tonight or tomorrow with DP 6, so that will be the true test. I skipped DP 5, however - I went straight from 4.61 to 6, due to my spankin' new Mac Pro.

So far, I think the GUI's an improvement, although I find myself fishing for the manual somewhat frequently (although that's usually the case with an upgrade). I do think MOTU could stand to back off the major GUI redesign for a while now.

Maybe I'll come back with a rant after my mix session.

anybody know how to set your parameters- in the past you could just use the "." in the 10 key to tab you from one numeric value when setting region parameters in the tracks window when you are editing.

Seems now it will not jump to the numbers on the end of the region- you actually have to use the mouse to change to the ending parameters after you have set the beginning values. anybody figure out how to get around this change??
