I remember a former frequent flyer, someone always in crisis, wrote a rant about buss vs bus. He favored bus.
Not even going to try to search for that old post.

James, were you doing anything with I/O settings when you got the message, or did it just randomly appear. I have found that I will sometimes (but rarely) get a false feedback loop message when I change the I/O in the Tracks window. It's as if the new settings haven't landed in their final destination yet, if that makes any sense. It usually quickly goes away, but on the rare occasion that it persists, closing and re-opening the project fixes it. If it doesn't fix it, it's because I've done something stupid and the error is real.
Also remember that your sends can sometimes be the culprit as well.
If you're asking me, whose legal name is James but usually only called that when I'm in trouble, I only get the error message I attached after assigning a Send to a Side Chain input on a NI Kontakt compressor.
Quitting and relaunching hasn't fixed it. But, what has worked a few times is deleting all the buses in the Bundles pane, Save As, open new Project, Load (import) the Saved As project without Bundles, and start clean assigning buses.
But, even that method hasn't been 100% successful. I suspect some Project corruption is happening. I have other reasons for suspecting Project corruption that I won't go into here. But, they are related to updating projects that were started years ago on previous versions of DP.

I could take a pretty good guess at who that was.

Now that sounds like a bug. My spidy sense says Kontakt. But of course I'm just speculating.
Your friendly neighborhood Phil

MOTU is schizophrenic about the spelling. The plural of a passenger type bus is "buses."
They have it both ways.
"When you try to please everybody, you please nobody."
I'm sure somebody famous said that once upon a time.

How about busing and bussing? Similar to fusing and fussing? Musing and mussing? We need sticky topic called Pedant's Corner.
