Assuming the worst, Gary, would going to AIFF be a desirable option? You'd think that compatibility and readability wouldn't be a problem in this case, although we'd miss out on any time-stamping benefits.

Interesting that you've sold your board and now using Cuemix.
Maybe I should start looking at cuemix and another interface instead of a new board.

I'm sure that aiff is a safe bet. BWF could be great but I hear quicktime and itunes can't deal with it per the Nuendo reports.

I'm not a real thorough beta tester and someone like shooshie should run a bunch of tests in 6 to see what's up I think. I would love to just use BWF and know that wherever my projects go they could at least be reassembled if not merged or continued easily if a corrupted session happens.

Cheers,
G

You're referring to the time stamping I assume, Gary. Seems the peace of mind wouldn't hurt.

Yes time stamps. They're one of Microsofts best ideas IMO.

Can imagine that.
But for my typical use, recording live bands/mixing and writing songs with just a few VIs it's been superstable so far. To me its been a very impressive .0 release! And wanted to report that...

Well, it was due to a mix of needing money, space saving and being lazy ;-)
In the end, it (Soundcraft Ghost) mainly got used for preamps when we needed to record more than 4-5 tracks at once and for studio foldback. So we sold it and got a Line Audio 8MP (8 channel preamp) and a new computer etc. Also the space we saved is nice to have! (really small control room).

I do miss it a bit though. If for nothing else, for the fact that it looks better with a big console in the room :-D

pre amp and input device is all I use my board for now.
its a big change to deal with after all these yrs.
If it wasn't there I would probably go to lean on it and fall of my chair.
I was thinking off getting a couple of MOTU 8pres plus my 2408mk3.
Would give all the inputs I ever need.

How do u guys mix.. just on a stereobus?
Is nobody mixing on the external board anymore, like me? I find this absolutely best sounding over mixing internal in the Mac/DP. I did my A/B tests..
When using more than 4 channels I always send all tracks seperately on the outboard mixing console. (I have 40 ch. I/P and O/P).
This gives all the benefits of maximum bitdepth and digital mixing from DP. My normal projects are at least 20-50 channels.
Mixing consoles might be big... alright, but they are much more than just great preamps....and for sure great sounding and wonderful to work with.

In The Box.
I'm mainly recording bands on a budget in my studio and the time it takes to go back to a mix on an analog console doesn't justify the small gains the mixer we had (Ghost) provided. That said, if it wasn't for being desperate for money and a new computer at that particular time I wouldn't have sold it and miss it sometimes... Also an Amek Big 44 like you have probably wouldn't even fit in our small control room haha. It's something like 3x4m... I would love to have a smaller high quality mixer/summing box sometime though... a 12 channel summingbox with inserts on all channels and master would be like a dream, is there such a thing?

Btw, Radiogal, are we the only 2 people in Stockholm that use DP? ;-)
Don't know anyone else at least...

cheers /DZ

I hear you, Radio Gal.

I was shocked at the difference that was immediately apparent when trying to mix in DP the day after I sold my O2R, and that thing wasn't cutting edge or even analog. It simply sounded clearer, more open, and was easier to set levels (mix!) in.

If I were you, as long as I could afford to run it, I'd hang onto that desk for dear life.

Check out the SPL Mixdreams. I've got two of them and can't say enough
about how nice they are.
