I'm back to 5 and staying there!
I really don't think it can be attributed to dedicated hardware. So many native programs work just fine... I think you have Nuendo, Gary? The fade capacity of Nuendo has always been far superior to DP in user options, sound and implementation. Of course they stole the fade editor from Sonic, but at least they do render fades in RAM in real time.

Imagine this, guys... in Nuendo you can be listening to a file while you put fade ins and fade outs on it, and then you can render that file WITH fades back to disk while it is still playing with no dropouts or hiccups. You can listen along to a file and do the upcoming crossfade when you see it coming and then hear it go by.

I have been asking for better fade capability in DP for years and years.

Yea MM and bob, Six throws me some interesting curves but it's under age and too young for me. :)

As far as Nuendo, I have not upgraded Nuendo yet. Maybe I will now that I have seen DP in action.

Are you having problems other than adding crossfades?
Does it happen everytime? Does it occur when DP is stopped, or just when in play or record?
As far as "dedicated hardware" there are lot's of complaints at duc.digidesign.com about PT7.4 having problems adding fades apparantly because of elastic audio. The complaints tend to be about larger sessions though, and probably you are not using DP6 with the DAE from PT7.4.

The edit freeze ups happen when editing in stop. There are others like using the main display window to rewind the tune with mouse control from play. Others on boot but occasional. Those are the only ones of significance.

I also found out today Nuendo 4 crashes on mac and now you say PT crashes. Have to wonder if it's the macs???

i don't want to star a new thread - this is close enuf - I just wanting to say how I am still having, like others, crashes when pulling the cursor around in the soundbite window, or sometimes when making crossfades or edge editing.

also frequent, and this was the case with 5.13 as well, the MAS seems different now, as opposed to back in 4.__ - when I make a change to a sound bite or move something and then hit playback, there is no sound -

this is just with one or two stereo tracks and no or one plugin.

slows me down. didn't use to be this slow.
and i have a pretty blazin machine that is only used for scoring.

DP6 also crashes for me

Post by bigwayne56 »

Hey all,

Just to let everyone know, I am having the same kind of crash issues. Just doing some real simple stuff like adding a groove quantize MIDI plugin on a MIDI bass line track, browse through the DNA grooves and boom DP6 crashes. Also crashed when I dragged a new soundbite into a sequence window, just upped and died.

I did the same exact steps with DP 5.13 and everything is fine. I will edit me sig to include my new hardware but like lots of us here I am running 10.5.4 with a Metric Halo UNL2 with the newest MIO software on a Mac Pro quad with 6 GB RAM and five different hard drives to record stuff to.

And BTW these were on SIMPLE projects the have like on audio file with a two bar loop, three MIDI tracks with a quantize plug on each and one with the Groove plug on that crashed the project.

I will play with DP6 but I think I am staying in DP5.13 land as well.

Shame too cause I actually like the new interface and some of the new workflow enhancements are very cool and useful.

Hope all is well,

Wayne
