%&*^k!! DVD 3 doesn't work. Tried with Chronosync, no go. How is it possible to mess up the whole M5 update (delays, bad disks..) so bad as Motu has done?
..need a deep breathe. For me it took two weeks to get version 2 from Motu (bought it from a local dealer), so maybe after another two weeks I'm using the whole M5.... and I hope I'll be happy again.

Otherwise M5 2 feels good. Just playing the pianos now... just playing.

15 january 2009 , i finally bought my Machfive 2 upgrade and wanted to install the DVD's which came with it and guess what....on all the DVD's i get the famous -36 error
I bought the MachFive 2 Upgrade from the Thomann Musik Store in Germany (I live in Europe) so they must have had these defective DVD's for almost 2 years laying around.
I'm not very happy because this thread is almost 3 years old, these defective DVD's shouldn't be shipped.
I emailed Motu techsupport, so i just wait what to do.

Actually, I'd customer service and sales. This isn't a tech support issue, it's a customer service/sales issue and they will respond faster in most cases.

If the disks are recognized by he Mac but not by MachFive you can try a couple of things. 1- COPY the disk and burn it onto another DVD, or 2- Make a disk image in Toast or similar program and see if Mac 5 will read that. If the Mac won't read the disks at all, it might be that you can ask Toast to COPY and when it asks for the disk, insert the DVD. Sometimes Toast will force read a disk the OS can't see.

Hi guys. My DVDs are working, but UFS images are not...

Here's the story: I keep my sound library on an external 500 Gb USB 2.0 drive, to easily share it between my desktop (Mac Pro Quad) and my laptop (MacBook Pro), both running Leopard 10.5.6. So I copied the four DVD UFS images on the MF2 folder, and I enjoyed the DVD4 Vienna orchestral sounds for a while. After a couple of months the MF2 browser failed to mount the MF2 UFS images on the laptop. I connected the USB HD to the desktop and checked it with Disk Utility, that found minor problems on the directory and repaired it: everything was working again.

Last week I was working with the laptop, I searched for the Vienna orchestral trombones and found that once again UFS images weren't available: I double clicked on it as always, but nothing happened. Disk Utility didn't find anything wrong this time, so I loaded some other sample and went on to work, waiting to come back home to check the issue. But when I connected the external drive to the Mac Pro, I found that I couldn't mount disk images either :(
I called MOTU Tech Support and they suggested me to copy the UFS images on a different disk. I did it, on both Mac Pro disks, but still MF2 failed to mount it. Same results trying directly from DVDs.

Then I had the idea to delete both MF2 "plist" (preference) files, and this seemed to work... I finally got an image mounted! But my Favourites were all gone... I needed to track them down to restore them, so I put back the old pref files and re-launched MF2: I was confident I just found the trick, but I wasn't... Deleting plist files didn't work anymore :x

In the meantime I found some other UFS images, the UVI workstation demo sound banks. I tried to mount them on MF2 and they worked perfecly... So I made aliases of the MF2 images and put them in the "UVI banks" folder (Library/Application support), to check if UVI workstation could see them. It failed to mount them as well, but when I disconnected the USB disk it asked for the originals... So I thought that MF2 images were corrupted in some way. I trashed them and made fresh copies from DVDs, but nothing changed.

Last note: while I was deleting the preferences, I kept that Finder window open on my 2nd monitor, and noticed that every time I failed to mount a MF2 UFS image in the browser, a little file called "com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist" was updated. When successfully mounting any of the UFS UVI images, the plist file didn't change. It could be possibly a sharing permission issue, but I'm not expert enough to dig that deep...

Did anybody else experience a similar problem? I'm waiting for an answer by MOTU Tech Support, but any help would be appreciated.
Excuse me if my English sounds weird sometimes, I'm (painstackingly) writing from Italy. Thanks in advance.

I'm still waiting for their next answer, actually. But in the meantime I managed to get DVD images back to work...

It's been quite hard, though. Since I was suspecting the bug was in OS X, I opened WinXP through Parallels Desktop and made some experiments. First I installed MF2, but it didn't work neither in standalone mode nor as a VSTack plugin, I don't know why. I was about to give up when I thought about UVI workstation...

I installed the PC version and put DVD4 UFS image's alias in the UVI Soundbank folder, and the UVI browser showed it and loaded sounds in a flash. In order to save the sounds I needed to finish a project, I opened MachFive 2 (in OS X) to check what was missing... and to my surprise its browser automatically mounted the image and loaded my performance without a hitch :D

I guess something was wrong in the permissions, or maybe the 10.5.6 update messed up things, I don't know. My external disk was shared between Leopard and XP, and probably that' s the trick that fixed it up. Anyway I was able to complete my project, and that's what matters. Now I'll try to investigate to avoid similar issues, hoping that somebody at MOTU realize what the problem was, and waiting for next Apple OS update :?

I am having the same problem Jantoman.

It's not much help, but at least you know you are not alone.

I have an intel macbook pro running OS 10.5.6.
I installed M5-2 and installed the Grand Piano .ufs file and the VSL Orch .ufs file.
on my internal hard drive.
When i navigate to a .ufs file in the M5 browser, it will not mount.

I've tried deleting the files and re copying them.. Still not mounting

However..
I've also installed the M5-2 on my desktop. G5 Powermac. running OS 10.4.11
Installed the .ufs files on a second hard drive in my tower.
It has been working fine.

Maybe it is an intel thing or 10.5.6.
I'll let you know if I figure it out.
You do the same.
2.3 intel i7 Mac mini (16GB ram) running Mavericks 10.9.1, also,
Macbook Pro 2.53 GHz intel core duo (4GB ram) running OS 10.8.2
MOTU 828 firewire, DP 7.24, Mach 5 2.0.2, MSI 1.1.3 and Ethno instrument 1.0.0.
Also, Digi 002 rack w Firewire interface, Pro tools 11, Avid Eleven gtr rack. blah blah blah

Well, after my last post everything kept working... so far :?
In the meantime I got a new "monster" drive (WD MyBook FW800 2Tb) and it seems much more stable and reliable than the USB2 drive I was using. Have you tried to use a different hard drive ?
Please keep us informed. Good luck.

Same thing happened here.I cannot seem to copy over the .ufs files from dvd's onto my harddrive, although the dvd's work in mach five 2,I cannot copy them onto my harddrives. The dvd's that won't copy are DVD1 + 3...Is there any idea's on what I should do here? I've tried copying them on my laptop+desktop both disks give the cyclic redundancy error message...

Perhaps there's a workaround to copying these? Thanks in advance for any help.. I've tried numerous iso image burners, nothing seems to fix it,it gets stuck at 48% :[ will call my dealer on monday..

Update:

the problem mounting DVD images was caused by corrupted permissions. Thanks to MOTU TechSupport for addressing the issue.

I created a new user account and logged in, launched MF2 and mounted a DVD image easily. Then logged out and back in with my account: everything worked.

A couple of days later it happened again... So I took a day off and repaired permissions in any possible way, except a clean install maybe :)

Now everything seems to work so far.
