the way i see it is if MIDI doesn't work properly in the first place, then there is no reason to buy any of motu's or anybody else's MIDI hardware. the MIDI problems are present on every platform on mac os x. i sold my mtpav and started using the MIDI port on my sound card and it's the same old story as when i was using the mtpav. at least i got some of my money back. until the MIDI implementation is satisfactorily repaired on os x then the best advice is to use the cheapest MIDI interface that meets one's needs because you are only going to waste time and more money in the long run working with a MIDI system that is woefully inadequate.

does anybody even know it pc users have these kinds of problems under xp?

They apparently have different issues but all DAWs on both OS's are now
pretty close so we will see who wins the functionality wars.

I have seen posts saying MS Nuendo screams on a Mac under windows. Is this hardware or OS?

Apple has some real optimization work ahead i think to bring macs under OSX in line with MS pure speed and that's likely to be the big story with the New 10.5 OS on Monday's announcments.

I just wanted to step in here and say I use both Pro Tools (for a while now)and DP (only recently), and I have never, ever, ever experienced the kind MIDI weirdness that is present in DP - I do not think it is a Mac issue at all. I don't use MOTU hardware, so I can't speak on that, but I'm actually shocked at how many strange MIDI issues there are in DP and how little MOTU appears to do to fix them.

Wow. I am speechless - to this day, the Tech Support guys I contacted about this issue attempts to deny this is still an issue. First he denied the issue existed at all. Then it was "Should be all cleared up in 5.01". I've pointed him to several posts about this problem and the level of denial is astounding. This is a bummer, but at least I got DP on a competitive crossgrade for pretty damn cheap. Not that anyone cares, but my plan is to hold on to DP just in case they start fixing stuff like this, and just bite the bullet and buy Logic Express or Pro - they've got a rebate deal running at GC this month. What a shame - DP is so much more intuitive and easy to switch to from Pro Tools than Logic (not to mention cheaper) but if they haven't fixed some of these long-standing issues by now (especially after re-coding for UB), I'd be foolish to count on this company for my long-term DAW needs. Bummer:(

i don't see how they CAN'T verify it. i was only using 3 voices with model12 (snare, kick, rim) on a 16 bar piece. in 10-15 minutes, i lost nearly a dozen notes.
i'm used to having issues with drum editors on various platforms, so i'm used to using piano roll. lucky me.

You have to go to the bottom of the page and click on Rebate Center.

Yes. Tiger is a requirement for DP 5.1.

I think this MIDI problem is actually a USB problem... I had the MIDI hang problem on my Motif Es (through a MOTU MTPAV USB), but ever since I switched to using firewire direct from my Motif, all problems were resloved... that has been my experience...

Geez, bone.china, don't assume that everyone is having these problems. I've had a few problems with MIDI-related things over the years since DP 4.0, and believe me, I get very upset when my MIDI workflow gets interrupted for any stupid reason. But these problems have never lasted for more than one version, and currently everything is running very well. I did a study a while back and found that MOST people with MIDI problems were using MIDI driver version 1.3.2. The fix for that was simply to go back to driver 1.3.1.

MOTU USB MIDI Driver version 1.3.1.sit

You might try it. I can't guarantee it will fix what ails you, but a LOT of people have told me that it did just that.

All VIs should have a Panic! button like NI Absynth 3 does. Absynth's Panic! button always works to kill stuck MIDI notes. This one isn't MOTU's fault. DP sends a proper 'MIDI panic' message (actually a string of messages) to the MIDI units/VIs etc. but a lot of VI's these days just don't respond to a MIDI panic (ie. CC#121) message. The thing to do would be to complain to the VI manufacturers, not MOTU.

How do you use firewire for the MIDI?..
I HATE how the drums get behind when I add piano voice, the drums start falling back off the beat..I'd lover to try firewire on the motif
