Fred,

Just wanted you to know that I enjoyed the march very much! And the piano sounds great.

Releaux, thank you! I do appreciate it. I actually redid the piece using Ivory, for comparison. (hope this link works)

http://soundcloud.com/fredparoutaud/little-march-ivory

I had one pianist comment that they preferred the TruePiano version! So...there you go. I'm finding each piano has its own strengths...and weaknesses. Ivory can be very realistic, yet harsh -- while TruePiano can be somewhat digital, yet smooth. It's quite interesting to play around with both, and to use both in compositions.

JB, I believe TruePiano is about 50megs, which is simply tiny in comparison to the 40gigs or so for Ivory. I'm guessing TruePiano uses a snippet of sample for the attack, then physical modeling (etc) for the sustain. It's really a very cool instrument, if that's what you're looking for. The trial version is great, you can check it out for 40 days (and 40 nights).

Cheers,

Fred

The standalone application is 32.3 MB.

The AU component is 20.9 MB.

I'm referring to version 1.4.0 (which I believe is the latest).

Its is much cheaper (Pianoteq is $345 vs $180 - don't know if the MOTU discount is still available), still mighty convincing with 4 models, but perhaps less tweakable and no electric piano or vibes add-ons like Pianoteq. Pianoteq seems to have more active development/release cycle (last TP release was a year ago).

I don't have Pianoteq but have downloaded and played with the demo. I have been a happy TruePianos user since the MOTU discount buy.

Also, the way it was setup, you could get the group buy so long as you belonged to this site prior to a certain date, but they've been rather generous about this and sometimes you can contact them and still get that deal. However, I'm not sure if TruePianos has come under the umbrella of another company now as I seem to recall seeing it on another site. I do know that it sounds really good for the small footprint and relatively low CPU hit.

Hi,

We are still very much alive and have not been taken over by another company etc.. I agree however that things have been going slow, at least for the outside world. We are however preparing a new update which I expect to be released some time this summer.

Oh yeah, TruePianos people actually come here and answer questions - I've not seen anyone from Pianoteq here before. :D

Is anybody using TP with Snow Leopard? With DP6.02? Even though it's not supported, how about DP5.13? Just wondering...

I tried TP in DP 6.02 in Snow Leopard. Seems to work fine, both standalone and in DP. I haven't actually recorded with it in SL yet, I just wanted to verify it worked and that I could select the various models, etc.
