I scenario has happened for me
Yesterday the same thing happened to me. I have a G5 dual 2 gig processor. I upgraded from OS 10.3.9 to 10.4.8 and upgraded from DP 5.01 to 5.1. DP 5.1 will not boot for me. It will open a file and then immediately crash. Yikes.
However, I can launch DP 5.01 and it will work fine.
I've been trying to update all my plugins to the latest updates. Still no luck. I have no answers but need some solutions also.

Good news, wax.waxman wrote:Just to give you hope... it can work...
10.4.8 and 5.1 has been working flawlessly for about 30 hours straight this week...
yeah...
Not fair, though, as you've probably had outside help!
Sorry; couldn't resist.

FWIW, 5.1's out for me due to the sysex thing.
5.01 suffers overloads when I'm running at 10 or 15% CPU, even with tiny track-counts.
I choose to "stop playback" each time, give DP a second or two to catch up with its buffers, and resume what I'm doing (usually just playback!).
MOTU, we need dem fixes.
The next DP update's gotta be soooo imminent now, methinks.
OK, mehopes.

Do you have the mas version of auto-tune installed? If so, remove it and see it that helps.

I did update to the latest Auto Tune version and I believe it is AU. However, I will check on that. Thanks for tip.
I also saw a another post who thought that the UAD-1 card current update and the latest update were conflicting in some way.
I also talked to Waves and they admitted that there is a problem with their plugins working with DP 5.1. They are working with MOTU to fix it in the next upgrade. They recommended to stay with DP 5.0x and Waves 5.0.
I guess I will stay there for awhile.

Ya, the auto tune mas version is a dp killer. I had an important file that was was dead in the water for over a year. MOTU tech support couldn't figure it out, but auto-tune eventually turned out to be the culprit...

An update guys...
MOTU support still has not emailed me back and they seemed to want to take this past Monday off work - so I couldn't get a hold by phone.
What I ended up doing is backing up my important stuff and reverting to a previous OS X. I reinstalled OS X and brought it up to 10.4.6. Installed DP 5.1 and then upgraded to 10.4.7. Everything is working like a charm now - no problems at all.
I repaired permissions before and after everything as is my custom. So... I don't really know what was the trick. Of course in trashing my applications I would have uninstalled everything. I uninstalled Mach 5 - the whole 9 yards. Not the way I would have preferred to spend my Friday night but ... what the hey.
I haven't noticed anything wierd with OS X since doing it but I'm a little freaked out. Kind of like when you used to try to uninstall portions of Windows and it never quite worked the same again. So far so good though.
Thanks for everyone's advice. I used DP 5.1 yesterday with no problems. I'm still fearful of upgrading to 10.4.8 but....
