SAY A PRAYER FOR ME. MAC PRO+DP5 WOES.
Please, this story is not for the weak of heart, the frail, or the cowardly.
Six months ago my poor G4 was hit by lightning. The wrath of the gods upon me. So, I ordered a Mac Pro 3Ghz whopper. Well, that took two months for Apple to get together -- and I was supposed to have a project finished for a CD release. Got the mac pro, and......DEAD ON ARRIVAL!!! Yes, this get's scarier.
After talking to Apple, they say SEND IT BACK TO US. I do. I wait a further 4 weeks for the mac pro. It comes.....and again, something's wrong with it. The fan noise is exceptionally high and is ALWAYS on. The Apple Care guy said "I can hear it over the phone!". So, after trying everything possible, the cure is SEND IT BACK!!! ARG! But this time they are letting me keep this one until the THIRD one comes....
And when I tried to use DP5.1 it just crashed, crashed, crashed. Other men have shot themselves over less. But, I decided to prevail. I called Motu, and they guided me through some programming via the terminal (sounds like a bug to me, guys) in which they said that this was apparently a "permissions problem". Well, that fixed it for me. Still sounds like a bug, though...
So please say a prayer, light a candle, say a spell, bring out the gris gris -- whatever, that the third Mac Pro will work. Because if it doesn't, it's the asylum for me.
So if you're having woes and trouble, think of me. And get help from MOTU support (they were really nice, by the way) and live a cleaner, more healthier life.

Hi Hellcat, you sound very philosophical about it. The third Mac will be fine. I had the same thing happen to me with a HP Notebook... had to take 2 models back, before I got any sort of stability with Windows. I wouldn't make any assumptions about DP 5.1 not working on it until you get an airtight computer that will pass the full hardware test, host OS X perfectly (and fans that behave!) The Mac Pro's are meant to be deadly silent right? I know your patience must be tested, but hang in there, there is always a reason why...
P.S. Your English is impeccable, does everyone in Norway speak / write so well?
P.P.S. Remember to get proper isolator / fuse protection for your new Mac!!!

Your benediction received. The Motu Saints are pleased.
Yes, the third mac in this Divine Comedy of the Trinity shall be blessed. It shall work, heal the sick, raise the dead, and bring on the grooves.
I HOPE, that is. Dunno about you guys, but Steve Jobs will get a visit "soprano's style" from me if this one doesn't cut the mustard.
And yes, most Norwegians do speak very good English. And I'm a yank, by the way, who lives here. Made up my mind to leave the USA when Bush stole the elections. And the farce has continued and gotten worse. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.
Maybe I should send him the two dead macs? Ah, but then, he's obviously a WINDOWS person.....

Yeah, Bush... and the other bush!
Did you see the Manchurian Candidate? Replace the film's President with Dubya, and Meryll Streep with Bush Snr. (with his CIA buddy Bin Laden by his side) and you start to get to the chilling nature of what is happening in the world. World Trade Centre "bombings" (not jet collisions) CIA collusion etc. etc. You don't need to be paranoid to start asking serious questions about the whole "War on Terror".
All the more reason to focus on music and production, not all the woes in the world. Bad things have always happened, and always will.

Ah, just what they need over there at the Bush ranch... two dead macs... one to run our "intelligence community" and the other to run FEMA. That has to work better than anything they have now, so what do you have to lose?hellcat wrote:Maybe I should send him the two dead macs? Ah, but then, he's obviously a WINDOWS person.....

listen more... sound better...
Sex, politics and religion are always good dinner (or forum) conversations I say, especially for us Mac "creative types". But yeah, no one ever seems to agree do they... like in 2001 (the movie), the apes fighting, a bone gets thrown into the air, and then; cut to: end of mankind, where the machine (Hal) has become human also, and totally screws the whole crew. Anyhow, to the original poster; enjoy lovely Norway. I would love to visit there one day... go to my Grandfather and Grandmother's home town of Larvik. Not too many Apple stores I take it!?

Oddly I have heard rumors that he is a Mac user. Hasn't been substantiated though -- based on one photo. Most say he is a "Dude You're Getting A Dell" Dude.hellcat wrote:Made up my mind to leave the USA when Bush <snip> Maybe I should send him the two dead macs? But at any rate, FWIW, he has a "personal aide" to transfer songs to his iPod. Cuz you know how difficult that can be. . .
http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/04/12/bush.ipod/
"iPod One," as the player has been dubbed, is used by Bush while he pedals around his Texas ranch on a mountain bike, presidential media adviser Mark McKinnon told the newspaper.
The task of downloading the music falls to the 58-year-old president's personal aide, Blake Gottesman, who buys individual songs and albums from the iTunes music store.
----
Well, FWIW: I put a goldfish on the pyre with two eyes on newt that any MacPro demons may be cast out.
If we're already at the point when we're talking about how the MacPro sucks, we're all totally lost.
Let's hope that hellcat's experience was one of those rare instances-- and how unfortunate it was that he-- a DP user-- had to suffer through this.

Good call, Frods
I feel hellcat's frustration.
A couple of years ago I copped a DOA G5.
It had taken 6 weeks to get to my door.
7 weeks later the replacement arrived, sans functioning mouse.
4 weeks later I received the new mouse which worked fine.
That's 17 weeks to get to the point of turning it on and... troubleshooting.
Remember the IBM Death Star, er, Desk Star?
I went through 4 of those before the store swore at me, telling me to not bother calling again, and hung up.
I anonymously bought them (the entire staff) a gourmet meal, hand-delivered from a classy nearby restaurant.
I remember it well, not least 'cause my mum had lettuce and potato for dinner (I rang next day and asked, savouring the absurdity of it all), and I went without!
Oh, and I've only been to restaurants a couple o' times myself.
FWIW, this followed a string of 19 consecutive "bad apple" (not mac; on ATARI) gear purchases.
Mathematically, well, I think you know.
I didn't need to punish myself any further, so threw out all records.
I stopped counting at 26 purchases. Who needs it?
Sometimes it seems entire departments are assigned to ensuring our failure.
If this means nothing to you, consider it therapy for the Monkey.
Hang in there, hellcat; you are not alone.
If only I'd had the 'net back then, perhaps I could have been spared that feeling too.
Still feelin' alone?
There's plenty more should you need it; just say the word.
Cheers

Hellcat thanks those who have suffered with me
Thanks y'all....all those who are now formally a part of the DOA MAC SUPPORT GROUP or ENCOUNTER GROUP THERAPY FOR DEAD MAC SUFFERERS.
That you all have so kindly shared your experiences with me has allowed me to stand up proud, take the first steps and say "I'm HELLCAT AND A MAC -AHOLIC."
Apple should get me my new mac within 7 days this time, but I have to say after all this silliness, I'm kind of tempted to keep a hard disc....
and send the old one back with just one.... he he he....
so lets hope the third time's the charm, or I'll have to get out my dusty book of spells and lay the whammy on Mr. Jobs....is that JOB in the biblical "ever suffering" sense?
NOW, let's start another thread here and send our weary wrath to those programmers WHO HAVE NOT YET GOTTEN MACHFIVE2 OUT for those of us who have now seen the Universal Binary light.....

Go hellcat, the proud Mac-oholic.
http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... sc&start=0
Fokof brought beer since you left, and Frodo's a walking supermarket (especially the deli).
Given we have no control over MOTU, we're left with two choices:
1) Your spells.
2) The beer and food.
Let's see... number 2's the only option involving calories... and beer.
Crikey, I'm goin' option 2. Again.
See you there, hellcat.

Monkey Man!
Hey Monkey Man!
Know any good agents or promoters in Australia? I work with an alternative artist named Lydia Lunch, and we want to get her over there. Sydney Opera House said they'd book her, but only on a tour.... so if you have any good tips, please send them to me!
And yes, I did sit in on the MachFive protest (my alter ego TANYA, THE REVOLUTIONARY MAC HEAD did, at least). But I was sadly asked to leave for having too revolutionary views, such as praising terrorist activities at MOTU, torture on errant programmers, and spreading subversive pamplets in Motu DP manuals.... oh well!
Still haven't gotten my third mac, by the way..... go apple, go....

Dang, hellcat, you probably know more people over here than I do, having been isolated for quite a while.hellcat wrote:Hey Monkey Man!

Sorry, bud, but the Unicorns at the 'Nation are pretty-much the only audio pros I know now.
Still I'll ring a couple of stores and ask some audio sales guys as they are often "well-connected".
How could we forget.hellcat wrote:And yes, I did sit in on the MachFive protest (my alter ego TANYA, THE REVOLUTIONARY MAC HEAD did, at least). When you've had enough revolutionist excitement, there's always the beer and Frodo's smorgasboard.

Sorry to hear that. It's frustrating when it's out of your hands.hellcat wrote:Still haven't gotten my third mac, by the way..... go apple, go....

Now if Unicorns programmed DP etc. and made macs, we'd never get the chance to have sit-ins!
