What exactly do I need to download to install my 896HD?

Post by dirtynbl »

I've started over with a system restore each time and everytime, and everytime I reinstall the 896HD I install:

MOTU_Audio3.6.7.0.zip
SETUPFW3.5.3.2.zip

Those seem to be the two files needed for the 896hd to work. I reboot and windows finds new hardware and finds most of the drivers except one driver it deems "Unknown".

The Unit works. I can pull up the ASIO inside audio appications and record with it, I just can't open any of the Utilities on my computer to control the unit. Every time I try to open Audio Setup or MOTU Firewire Console or any of those my computer just shuts off and starts rebooting. No error message, no nothing.

I'm using XP and have never had an issue installing a device like this before. The lack of documentation on the MOTU site is killing me.

896hd frustrations

Post by seankouher »

I'm running into issues with the proper function of Motu 896hd also. It will install and run fine for several minutes then it will cause my computer to stall. Also, the audio will cut in and out. It does the same thing with Sonar 5, Reason 3.0, Coolse, and WinMedia player.

I've tested it on 5 different systems and getting the same results. I'm running XP with 1.5 gigs of ram in all systems except the laptop. Here are the specs on the PC, 1) P4 2.8 Ghz 2) Celeron 2.4 Ghz 3) Celeron duo core 3.2 Ghz.
Still the same results.

I now have 4 sets of Firewire cables, installed a new TI firewire card so that's not the problem. Infact that extra long firewire cable that came with the unit seems have an even harder time setting up.

Am I just not getting some sort of setting right? Please help.

oh, I tried calling MOTU support at 617-576-3066 and it's constantly busy.

I had a similar problem when I run the 896HD. Mine usually occurs when I try to switch the audio settings within Mackie Tracktion 2. Windows XP will actually give me a blue screen and shut down and restart my computer. I know my ASUS MB has a TI firewire chip and I'm running an AMD 63 3500 (2.2GHz) with 2 Gigs of RAM. When Win XP comes back up and I restart Tracktion 2, it tells me that it had a problem with my MU-401 driver (says it wouldn't load, so it won't load it this session). After that, I can jump back and forth between audio settings without a problem. Kind of weird. If I leave my settings alone in Tracktion 2 (which I now do) for use with the 896HD, I don't have any problems what so ever. The reason I was switching audio settings was to see how my mix was going to sound through my regular computer speakers (which are connected to the onboard sound, using Directsound Drivers). I just now use the headphone outs on the 896HD. It seems to work fine now.
