Yep, I got to see it about a week ago and I think it's going to do quite well at this price point! It will also function as a stand-alone mic-pre, I don't know if people will buy it for that reason but if you buy one as the audio interface and can use it as such, hey.
Thank you,

I posted this question as part of a long musing on this product in the DP forum, but this is a far more appropriate place for a focused technical question:
Would you expect better quality from linking this unit to an 828 mk II via firewire than via ADAP (even if only working in 44.1k or 48k)?
I am looking at it as an expansion unit and just curious, as I have yet to daisy chain any firewire devices and am not sure if it's the best way for audio quality or if there are issues.
This is especially important if I get a Mac Mini next year, which only has one firewire port, as I will then have the dilemma of what to do about my external hard drive. Hook the 828 into it, or vice versa? And if adding this expander unit, is that one too many in the chain?

u should be fine both ways. Actually connecting thru ADAT is better (for me) because u'll have all ur input channels (828 and 8Pre) in one cuemix window VS. haveing a window for each unit if u connect theu firewire. But in that case, I dun think u can use the ADAT ins on the 8Pre. U'll be just using the pres.mhschmieder wrote:

Her nose was not really a nose at all. It was only a beginning.

This unit looks perfect!, I've been looking for an interface for my laptop. It will also fill my last optical I/O on my 2408 mk3 in the studio. A very smart design, kudos to MOTU.
