New user question re:MK828II/Cubase SX3

Post by RTwinkie »

Hi All;

Yep, this is my first question here.

I have NO problem with Windows audio, MP3's, WAV's, etc. Cubase plays well, until I try to bring import a .mid (MIDI) file. I was told that I could play .mid thru this setup with awesome sound results. But I cannot get a single peep out of the speakers when trying to play back any .mid file. I realize this is probably a basic new user kid of question and really hesitate to even ask it, but I am soooo frustrated with this! Thanks in advance for your help!

AMD 64 Dual core 2.4Mhz, 1GB RAM, GeForce 6800XT, MOTU 828MK II, Cubase 3.1.9.44, XP SP2.

In Cubase, you have to route the MIDI output to a MIDI instrument. You can route it to one of Cubase's MIDI instruments, a MIDI plug-in, or a MIDI keyboard or other instrument.

Your problem is a Cubase config, nothing to do with the MOTU hardware.

if you route to an external MIDI device, make sure it supports general MIDI. if it does not, you'll either hear nothing, or some odd mess of sounds rather unlike what you expected to get.

No MIDI at all from my 828mk2

Post by RTwinkie »

Hi guys,

I know it has been sometime since I began this post, but lets just say I have been distracted from what I enjoy.

My problem is not "just" with Cubase. I recently acquired a nifty little program (tutor) that uses MIDI extensively. It doesn't work either. On the 828mk2 I get a "MIDI out" light when the program is sending out data... but absolutely NO SOUND! Is something disconnected????

I feel like this is a simple click here, switch this or some such easy kind of fix, but I am just totally frustrated with the whole thing.

If any of you have any suggestions, please let me know.

My outside distractions are no longer an issue, and I want to get on with building my studio.
