Help! Can't get Kontakt to work with DP!

Post by musikmik »

After a lot of deliberation (and advice from this forum!) I recently purchased DP and Kontakt 2 for a project where I am needing to play samples live and also use tracks. I LOVE working with Kontakt, but in trying to start using DP I am running into a brick wall. I can't get anything to make sound! After following the manual's directions in creating an instrument track, I can't get to any screen which allows me to choose an instrument, pick an input/output channel, or even figure out a way to use DP as just a sequencer to run Kontakt in standalone mode. Even when I see activity on the MIDI monitor of the instrument track, I can't even get the built-in VI's to play! Is there something in the manual I am missing? My goal would be to figure out how to load instruments from Kontakt into DP as a plug-in, but if that isn't possible I'd be okay at this point just running Kontakt in standalone mode. Any help would be really appreciated!

make sure that your instrument track is assigned to an audio output-- then load an instance of K2 into that track.

From there, you should be able to follow whatever directions for loading in sounds on K2.

Make sure you also add a MIDI track and set that MIDI track's MIDI channel to correspond to K2's MIDI channels.

Also, make sure you have record-activated that particular MIDI channel.

Those are the basics...

The other day when solving the DP5.1/auto-tune mas crashes I was having I realized that Kontakt 2 was crashing on startup (both the plug in and stand alone version) I updated to the latest version but still had the crashes. Any ideas? (Thanks in advance to the UN for NI support! : ) -Vincent

I'm having the same problem, can't get Kontakt to show up as an instrument track in DP. Any ideas?

I'm running/using symphonic instrument no problem, but kontakt simply does not show up under Project/Add Track/Instrument Track.

What's listed there is Apple: DLSMusicDevice and MOTU Symphonic Instrument

How do I get Kontakt to show up?

Thanks,

Fred

the problems you are having...
...sounds very much like you are trying to use Kontakt2 as a plug-in in DP 5.1 on Intel Mac.
If so then everything is normal.
K2 cannot show up in DP5.1 because DP runs as a native MacIntel program while K2 is not UB yet. UB version of K2 should be out in october

Well I can't help but I can add to the confusion.

I recently installed Kontakt 2.1.1 on my old G4 and it also does not show up as an AU for 'project/add instruments' but it does show up as a VST (I have a wrapper). So I just use the VST.... The AU is installed but does not appear to load when DP starts up.... I have tried reinstalling etc ....

However, on my G5 it does work as an AU ... both machines are still on 10.3.9 and I noticed the other day this is below requirements for the latest version of K2 (2.1.1) But obviously my G5 has more speed and memory (and a lot less crap installed!). No problems at all.

If however K2 shows in the instrument track and has a plug in window in DP - but no actual GUI of its own - that's becasue the inst track's outputs are not set correctly. Set the out to a viable pair and GUI will appear as if by magic.

So to ... er... summerize: K2 works fine with DP(5.01) - there may be a slight bug tendancy with the latest K2 version (2.1.1) but it could just be my G4 crapping out on me.

I'm using it on a macmini running dp 4.61, but not the new intel macmini. Does that mean I'll have the same problem?

thanks,

Just in from Kontakt:

>>
You are going to want to download/install the latest Kontakt \'2.1.1\' update.

You can find it on our website under the \'support\' section.

<<

So I'll try that!

Ok, I'm having a nice chat with myself here...

But I just downloaded 2.1.1 and installed and it works beautifully with dp4.61 on my mac mini, shows up as an instrument just like Symphonic Instrument.

Oh boy, now the fun begins!

Hmmm I've installed the latest but get a crash on start up either in Standalone or plug in mode. I must have a corrupted library, preferences or something ....
