splitting recorded stereo recorded keyboards

Post by scott dansby »

I am trying to split a stereo recorded keyboard into two mono tracks for more control and easier mixing. What I have tried to do is duplicate the track that I want spilt, panned those in opposite directions, and bussed them to two seperate mono tracks. When I recorded those tracks onto the mono tracks they carried both sides of the stereo track without seperating right and left.
How do I achieve seperating these tracks?

If they were recorded stereo to dual mono...wich thats what it sounds like, you wont be able to seperate them as true stereo tracks.

I'd re-record if you can or maybe when you split the track add some delay on it much like people do when they double a guitar track. That will add some stereo imaging to it.

i would solo and pan the stereo track to the left, BTD mono track add to sequence, then do the same panned to the right. make sure there is nothing on the master buss that you don't want to go down with that synth.

I guess I'm a little fuzzy on what you're after, but to turn a stereo track into separate mono's just strip the L and R from the filenames, rename them if you'd like, and you've got two mono tracks.

I'm not sure what you mean by "more control" over the tracks, but I assume you mean you'd like to have control over the stereo image itself - either widen it, narrow it, or put it off to one side, so to speak, while still maintaining the stereo image. Is that correct?

I think you can use "Trim" to adjust or constrain the stereo image.

Waves Gold, Platinum, and Diamond bundles feature a suite of Stereo Imaging plug-ins which will widen, narrow, or shift the stereo image.
