MachFive2 "preview" now shipping.

Post by jloeb »

For those MachFivers who are just too sick and tired of waiting for a sample set to put on their Intel Macbooks, partial relief is here, and apparently here today:

http://www.ultimatesoundbank.com/

There's every reason to think that this is what MachFive2 itself will look like and act like, probably with one or two cosmetic and feature differences. And it's "Now Shipping." This tells/hints at a couple of things i think:

a) obviously, the engine itself is done. b) what remains to be completed before the MachFive2.0 release probably has to do with figuring out what to include and/or prepping the contents of the sound library, and c) possibly ironing out issues with importing foreign formats (a *big* deal for the viability of MachFive).

Also, it appears that the chronic issue of lack of available plug-and-play sample content for MachFive will be addressed at least in part by having UniSon "roll their own:" their website indicates that they are planning to release their own extensive series of specialized libraries as "UVI Soundcards."

As an owner of the Plugsound Box set from a few years back, i was entitled to upgrade to Plugsound Pro for $150, so i bit. I did so not only because i knew that for that price i would eventually anyway, but because this seems like a reasonably strong solution for those who want to get rolling on their intel mac laptop studio: good bread and butter palette of sounds, nothing that needs to be streamed from disk and, at 8GB, a relatively small drive footprint.

Plus: a chance to see what life with MachFive2.0 will be like....

When my order shows up, i'll keep you informed.

I was surprised these details didn't show up a few weeks ago in the earlier discussion of the Ultimate SoundBank.

At any rate, I couldn't resist the $600 blow-out on NI Komplete 3, and that should arrive in a few days. I still see Mach Five in my future, but now that I can host various soft synths via Reaktor and import sample libraries into Kontakt, it's no longer an essential/immediate need.

Still, I'm glad for the rest of you who've been waiting so long, that you can finally get your hands on Mach Five 2, and look forward to continuing to follow the sampler discussions in this forum.

we had UB UVI engine before your great discovery :D
MSI for example is using UVI engine too, Ethno too.

Seems i've touched a nerve! I wonder why???

Well, my humble apologies to those who are easily upset by such feints!

I actually did post out of genuine interest and excitement though (and NO association whatsoever with UVI, btw), primarily because i had been looking for a way to get a decent Intel-compatible palette of sounds onto my MacBook Pro, that didn't require me to buy (and use - yechh) Logic Express + paid UB upgrade (yechh).

Plus, i think my description is basically correct. I know we've *sort of* been in this territory before with Ethno & Symphonic, but only *sort of*. This is the most well-developed, feature-rich and broadly useful product in the "MachFive2.0 family" released so far, and seems on first inspection to have EVERY feature that M52.0 is slated to have, minus a new sound library & UVIX 2.0. It will be like using M52.0 - just without the up-to-the-minute sound library & importing.

And it's so *portable*. :D

Then it sinks back down into my shoes :D

I'm really pissed off at Ultimate Sound Bank

As an owner of Plugsound Vols 3 and 6, I would like to
continue to update the product I invested in (and I want
to keep using it because it sounds great)

However, USB is pulling the customer-hostille trick of
requiring a DONGLE for their upgrade to Plugsound.

Being that I will not submit to this draconian scheme
(don't bother trying to convince me because I WILL NOT capitulate)
this means that USB has effectively locked me out of product
upgrades, meaning that my investment in these instruments
has been lost.

I'm not sure if I will ever spend money on software instruments again, frankly.

Well, MachFive has been protected by a dongle since it was first released, and (thankfully) it's the same dongle used to protect the new Plugsound Pro, so few people here are likely to be too upset about that.

Look, i'm facing the highly unattractive prospect of running around with a damn dongle sticking out of *both* sides of my laptop (the other one, a different brand of dongle, for Arturia products) so i feel your pain.

But, bottom line, software developers use dongles because they work to prevent theft, and seemingly little else does that effectively. I hate that that's the way the world is, but folks have a right not to see their work get kracked from here to Hoboken.
