im still waiting until i can boot OSX on a PC... $3.5k is a bit much for a machine thats on last generation intel chips. and how many times is mac going ot make software manufacturers update their software to work properly/natively with their OS?

i miss a lot of things not using DP anymore, but there is a lot i dont miss... it does kill me to think i might have to buy a PCpro for FCP/Motion.

i wish DP added delay compensated hardware inserts instead of a meter bridge.
dual gHz, OSX 10.3.9, DP 4.6, PSP plugs [then a load of nice hardware]

Ok you are working your name today pal. LOL....

the Xeons just shipped so how are those last generation?????

and 3500?? Why do you need to buy a quad 3.0??? the Quad 2.0 will smoke most things and still runs on average 900 to 1500 less than the PC makers can sell it for...

Oh. Right, you wanna build your own.

At 2100 for a Quad 2.0 Ghz unit, Screw building my own.... :)

The hardware inserts would be nice.... But I got rid of Nuendo.... :) DP needs to optimize the software even more before wasting time on hardware insert delay comp. :)

Logic and Ableton work great on my 2.66 Mac Pro, DP doesn't, plus tech support isn't helping.

LOL. Thats funny. Nuendo has a slight edge on audio clarity, but the ticket price and ease of use and lack of similar efficiency on a mac made it a toss out. Plus I cant use AU's, just vst's

Somebody's dreamin'!
Perhaps now with the Intel changes, this time-frame may become more typical.
I'm used to 6 weeks myself, provided nothing goes wrong such as a DOA Mac or something.

definite problems with macbook and 5.1!

Post by dbrownstein »

i've a brand new macbook 13" 2.0ghz, 2 gig ram. la cie 300 drive (attached via usb) and old 828.

i'm also using a 19" monitor, keyboard, and kensington mouse. waves plugs v 5.9, dp 5.1, osx 10.4.7

i'm getting tons of crashes.

motu tech support has been very little help. i sent them crash reports and even my files, no response yet, but it's only been since weds or thurs.

crash come in the following places and times.

-hitting the space bar
-bouncing to disk
-selecting a plug in
-resizing a window
-doing nothing.
-playing a keyboard through MIDI.

am now a bit more stable, but saving after every keystroke.

old projects (dp 4.61) have not come in very cleanly.

moto tech support suggested staring with a new project, which i did.

that was good for a while, then crashed, and was corrupted and wouldn't open. luckilly i'd saved a back up.

waves plugs are generally working, but sometimes cause a crash.

there seem to be some usb issues, i think, although i'm not a doctor.

because i was using and external monitor, i had originally moved the menu bar from the laptop to the external, but since moving it back i'm more stable.

i've reinstalled dp, which didn't change things muched, unnattached all peripherals, used the internal drive etc. stuff was fairly stable then. gradually added in peripherals, and then plugs. things are getting better but by no means seamless.

am considering going back to os 10.4.6 to see if that's more stable.

this is definitely a pain in the . . . neck.

hope to see what motu tech says later in the week.

my error messages all speak of a kernel error. i have gotten a few "you must restart your macintosh" errors, but mostly DP just crashes and asks if i want to see the report.

fwiw.

thoughts?

(by the way, reason has been bulletproof on this machine. a friend was over and tried to get it to crash and was anable to.)

Try V 5.01 and the PPC versions (5.7 waveshell) of your plugins and see if you haev the same crashing issues. I am asking you to rosettatize your self for testing purposess.....

As I Have stated I have the 1,83 and ZERO issues.

giles,

DP 5.01 and Waves 5.7 work on the intel macbook? Hmm, that's interesting/surprising.

what os are you using on your 1.8 macbook?

i don't actually own dp 5. i do own 4.6 disks which runs fine on my g4 1.2 ghz machine, and my newly arrived dp disk is 5.1. can't download v 5.01 on the motu site. (i can't believe i paid for 2 upgrades this year ! ! ! )

i'm probably going to wait a few days and see if motu replies to my crash reports, but i'm willing to try your suggestion if things don't get better soon.

i'm assuming that waves will let me authorize their older versions, since i just bought and authorized new licenses this week too (rennaissance and musician's bundles.)

what does rosettatize mean? (like, do something for the common good of software testing for the community?)

thanks for the suggestions and input . . .

i love the idea of ZERO issues! ! ! !

it would be nice to work without saving after every keystroke.

see ya

Exactly the same problem. 2.66 and DP5.1. Constant crashing and also will not see Ethno Instrument or MSI. Very unhappy.

I am running 10.4.7

When I first got my macbook (back in may) the only dp v available was 5.01 so I was rosetta'd. The SSL's were PPC only so again I was rosetta'd

It wasnt the fastest thing. (more like a 1Ghz G4 Tower) but it was cool. when they went UB (dp and waves) i was on point... The only crash I have to date was an incompatible plugin (inspector XL) which is fixed now. and once when the usb cable was yanked out the laptop during song playback.

Thank goodness I wasnt doing anything critical.
