Yeah... that was my impression back then. Wasn't there an Orange Vocoder or something once? I remember that was decent as I recall. Most everything I want would at least be an Audio Unit. Seems like after the advent of the Audio Unit spec, VSTs are becoming more PC-centric and as such don't always work on a Mac.

I like the Pre-amp. One slight problem though. Any file I imported from my DP 3.1 had digital crackling from the pre-amp. I contacted MOTU about this but they couldn't replicate this. The fix I found was delete the pre-amp and reload it in 4.6. All fine after that.

Preamp has been my main guitar fx until I got a pod. I find it useful on synth tracks too.

Excellent example James!

You've got me thinking about all the plugs I've got and how I could be using them better.

Thanks.

weird

Post by bongo_x »

this is weird, I was just coming here to post the same thing. I was thinking how no one ever mentions this plug and always says the bundled plugins are nothing to get excited about.

I have a lot of distortion plugs but often they are just too much, even amp sims are too much, I just want to liven things up. it's good to make a dull bass stick out a little.

btw, there's a lot of free vst's worth having, imho, and the vst wrapper is worth it, although many have been put out as au's lately.

and I also think the bundled plugs in general are underrated.

Sonic Modulator can do a pretty fair Leslie... I used it years ago to fatten up an anemic PC88 mod-wheel Leslie effect. Now we have plug in automation, which should allow us to record the Leslie signature speed change by adjusting appropriate speed parameters.

I haven't used SM for years; doesn't it have a crossover control, allowing one to split the signal and manipulate frequency ranges separately?
...sorta' lile a Hi Rotor and Lo Rotor?

Hey James, thanks for a great site! I love the good vibes always present in this DP community, esecially as we endure the challenges of changing times. And, yes, San Diego rocks!

James - the MDA-VST site has Audio Units, too, not just VSTs. You wouldn't need a wrapper in this case.

Very nice mp3. The Pre-amp grit sounds great on the organ.

I've lost track, but I'll 4th or 5th (too late to 2nd) Pre-Amp on drums: kick & snare!

Pre-Amp on bass sounds good.
