Hmm. 5 days and no reply. There must be a great deal involved.

Makes you wonder if it will ever happen.

I just typed "unisyn universal binary" into Google and got only three results!!

One taked about the UB release of Ethno. The second one was in Japanese, and the last one was on a page full of jargon.

Sorry for that... but do you remember the time it took for Unisyn to get out of version 1? 10 years I believe and I'm not kidding either, and it still crashed left right and center! I would guess the answer to your question is: "never" or, perhaps, "not in your lifetime." A less polite member of this list might say "what, are you out of your ••••ing mind?!"

In other words I wouldn't hold your breath.

Damn, beat me to the hysterical laughing post. Sucks too. Unisyn could be so much but MIDI hardware users seem to be getting the cold shoulder. Sucks and I won't bring the whole VI/Hardware war up but I could use a GUI for the Korg Synths I bought before I bought Retro AS. Korg's still work. Retro, as well as Unity DS-1 left town with 0S9 and the $1000 I spent on them). At east my Akai I bought before Unity has AK.Sys which works in OS X.

I don't think it's necessarily universal that hardware synths are being given the cold shoulder.

For instance, in the cases of soft synths that are either emulations of, or inspired by, hardware synths of yore, there is general support for reading in (and sometimes writing out) the original synth's file format and/or SysEx.

Yamaha goes back further than most vendors in supporting older gear. I don't know if it happened yet or not, but there was even talk of adding FS1r editor support to Studio Connections.

I don't think MOTU can be faulted for porting their other apps to UB first, but I don't think it's quite time to assume there will be no furutre revision or UB port. It could be a major ticket for them to compete with the likes of Native Instruments Kore, while differentiating themselves and reaching other customers as well (such as those with otherwise-unsupported hardware).

I've already made my buying decision, but am simply awaiting the funds. At $149 or thereabouts, it's worth it even for two to four synths. If it's never ported to UB, I'll have to be careful to maintain a PowerPC Mac.

And for some like me, an OS9 PPC Mac at that. I've never gotten Unisyn to work completely with OSX. And I'm crestfallen there was no Patch List Manager for OSX either. I agree that Cherry Picker is less than satisfactory, and I think it's a shame MOTU dropped the ball, and makes us rely on third party shareware to make patch lists for DP.

FYI

Unisyn runs well on the Intel Mac. No specific UB update is required.

That's great news!

I was out of the country for four weeks, so am just now seeing this. I'm so far behind on so many things by now, and am also refocused on the conversion from slide film to digital photographer (I must have been one of the last holdouts), so I am unlikely to be active in these forums until closer to Winter NAMM.

Unisyn UB

Crashes on launch for me. This is extra annoying because I fell for the "Add Unisyn to your DP 5 upgrade order" only to find that it doesn't work. Given that I upgraded DP specifically to get intel support, this is a bit galling.

What version of Mac OS X are you running? Remember that there have been innumerous problems with 10.4.9. Your problem may not be related to how well Unisyn runs on an Intel Mac.

10.4.9 but with the manual install as recommended by apple and everyone else who makes music stuff.

Still crashes. :-(

Calls to MOTU got the message "It doesn't work on intel macs".
