Audio clip is garbled when put into a Song

Post by elmurfo »

Hey guys,

Here's the deal... I create sequence to which I have added some audio clips ...then I place this sequence into a song...when I play the song, the audio clip sounds garbled. What's up?

Thanks,
Brian

We'd need more into in order to help you. What kind of audio file are you inporting to DP? What is the sample rate? Is the sample rate the same as your project's sample rate? Have you played the track on another audio player (Peak, Sound Studio, Quicktime Player, iTunes)? If it sounds OK in any of those players, IMHO it should sound OK in DP if you import it correctly.

Cheers,

Geoff

The sound byte is an AIFF file, 16 bit, 44 khz. - where do I set the bit rate for my project? Since I haven't done that, I would assume it defaults to 16, 44?

Thanks!

It's not at all a given that DP will default to 16/44. You have to enter those settings, (including frame rate), yourself. I'm not in the studio right now. I just go to those settings on auto pilot without thinking about it, and I'm danged if I can remember exactly which menu it's in. I think it might be under Harware in the Studio menu. It's in the manual.

Cheers,

Geoff

...and the AIFFs play fine outside of DP? This is just to confirm that the AIFFs themselves are not the problem...

Maybe it's the "automatic conversions" configuration... you can do ALL kinds of mayhem there!

Yes, the AIFFs play fine in Quicktime player (where I preview them).

How do I turn off the AUTOMATIC CONFIGURATIONS?

Thanks,
Brian

I have it on good authority that 'DP' actually stands for 'Devil's Playground'.
Need I say more?

Preferences Menu > Editing > Automatic Conversions (not automatic configurations)

Options here are to:

1. Convert on import
2. Convert whenever file doesn't match project sample rate-- or sample format-- or sequence tempo (three different options)
3. Never

You may also disable Automatic Conversions completely and do them manually per project, as opposed to doing it globally for all projects.

More info: DP5 manual, Chapter 64, page 827.
