Tune posting virgin!
Hey all,
Time to put my head on the chopping block! A new song up on my new myspace site at: http://www.myspace.com/fixederror
Any constructive criticism regarding the mix welcome. Personally, now i think that the drums are too loud and i need more bass but that opinion changes every day. Streaming seemed slow but i think its because of these damn servers at university.
Regards

Hi
good track man!
maybe you should try a sherman of ring modulator on the drums...it would be nice...[edit: i mean a Sherman FB2 "or" a ring modulator]
the mix sounds good to me, i like loud drums!
for me the mix is the same that i would do with music: spontaneous, natural feeling of the moment...If i didn't do that i'm always thinking of improvements, and never finish the mix!!!
keep it up
peace

hey thank diaphonik!
I might just try that ring modulator on the drums! This track is a not the usual sort of stuff that i do and i found it a bugger to mix. I agree with your mixing theory. Spontaneity is the key. Although in this case i put in a lot of effort to make it appear spontaneous when perhaps it wasnt! BTW, i checked out you tracks - you've got some good stuff there!

All this was done with VI's and samples. I wanted to try to create the sound of real instruments using MIDI. Guitar, bass and strings were done with Sampletank patches and the synths with Albino. Thought the bass sounded a bit too "MIDI" for my liking but i cant play bass so didnt have much choice. I usually play drums but i thought the samples used (Drum Werks) fit the song nicely. Had to chop them up a bit though.Jim wrote:Cool track. Nice use of percussion. Could be a cue for a film. Good mix. All ITB? I'd like to know a bit about your gear and process, if you please.
Al lot of FX used but all virtual. Dont have any outboard as yet unfortunately. I would like to get some musicians in to play the guitar and bass parts eventually.

Hi
i'll give you a trick: to make those virtual instruments sound better try to get just a simple line peamp (i got some old schlumberger made for Radio France in the early 70's), it would add the "analog" feeling maybe those VI lack a lot. I recommend to get a old stuff cause it will be more "coloured" than the today's preamps...
then just run the VIs in the preamp and record them on you computer one by one.
peace
