Traveler Stuck in Firmware Upgrade mode!

Post by dagnome »

Last night I had a Kernel Panic on my G5 (dual 2.5GHz - PCIx version), and had to shut the system down the hard way - hold power until it commits suicide and shuts off. :(

Now, as of this morning, my Traveler is stuck in "Firmware Upgrade" mode, and WILL NOT boot back into operation, no matter HOW many times I cycle the power.

I checked the Firmware using the Firmware Updater App, Version 1.05 and it verified OK, then, for whatever reason, decided to upgrade the firmware to 1.07 (in case being stuck in Firmware Upgrade mode really meant "I need to have my firmware upgraded to 1.07"! It upgraded to1.07 and said it verified fine, but STILL will not exit Firmware Upgrade mode and boot normally -

I'm kinda miffed that there is not a more robust support solution on the MOTU site, as any company that makes this kind of gear should be responsible enough to provide clear and current documentation on what can go wrong, and HOW TO FIX IT!

Instead, I hunt around and find only vague references to this problem, and the possible solution of "sending it back to MOTU for repair".

So I ask: does anyone know what's causing my Traveler to be stuck in firmware upgrade mode, and how to fix it without sending it back to MOTU?
I love this thing, and don't want to be without it, but right now it's a boat anchor. Thank God I have an alternate interface to use for now...

Thanks in advance for any help - I appreciate this forum being around...

Bruce

P.S. Please forgive me if this is buried in the archives somewhere, but I looked and could not find anything about this...

IS there anyone who could shed some light on this issue for me?
Even if it is only yo point me to a post I could not find in the archive - I'm dead in teh water here, and MOTU Tech Support has not responded (yet)

thanks - Bruce

hi dagnome... i had this problem a while back too... and what made it worse was that it was an exchanged unit for mine which couldn't power up.

what i did was take off all the connections to the unit, flick the power switch up and down a few times... plug the FW cable back in and lo and behold... it powers up normally again.

this problem persisted a few more times... and with each time doing the same thing... (more out of frustration if i might add) to fix it.

i also did it with the power cable plugged in... worked too.

unconventional... but yeah...

right now, my Traveler runs fine
