Crashes continues with Digi hardware, am I alone?

Post by rinky »

Upgraded from DP 5.01 to DP 5.1 with great hopes that the compatibility issues have been resolved with Digi's hardware. I have been running DP with my HD2 Accel system since the release of DP 5 and haven't been happy with the crash occurring intermittently, usually every hour under DAE. Anyone else having the same issues using DP 5.1 with Digi hardware? Any tips on minimizing this frustrating experience is greatly appreciated.

Dual G5 2.7, 4GB ram, OS 10.4.6. All plugs current. Trashed Digi's and MOTU's prefs, repaired permissions, etc. Using external 7200 firewire drive for data storage.

Pro Tools version 7.1cs8 is my current update. Will cs9 help?. I would love to stay within the PT environment with MIDI but it just doesn't do it for me . It's not there yet for me. Dang, I miss Studio Vision!!!! Is Logic just with Digi hardware just as bad as DP5? So much with compatibility.....

rinky,
Are you getting an "unexpected quit" message with the crash?

Feel free to contact me directly and I'll see if I can help.

My symptoms under DAE
1) Beach ball will appear and most of the time the sequence that's playing will have a tempo all of a sudden of like 1 or 2 bpm. Then it just hangs with notes stuck and become unresponsive, thus a force quit is the only way out.
2) The overall volume will intermittently go up (all instruments) for a couple of second then come back down to normal.
3) Cannot save while sequence is running or the ball of death will start spinning.

I was hoping DP 5.1 would have corrected this but once again, the frustration remains. I hope PT 7.3 will have a much better MIDI implementation...... then I shouldn't have to deal with the buggy MOTU any longer.

I haven't had much luck with DP5.01 or DP5.1 either. I tired using different OS's (10.4.7 and 10.3.9) and different DAE (PT6 on 10.3.9 and PT7.cs7 on 10.4.7) and pretty much run into somekind of problem with them all.

So far I've gone back to Dp4.6 using OS 10.3.9 and PT 6.9.1. That's been the most stable and has the least problems, except for an occassional crash.

The only combo I haven't tried yet is DP5.1 wtih OS 10.4.2 and PT6.9.2.
I'm hoping that maybe I can get some of the new features on DP to work with PT6.9.1 which still allows for HTDM.

It's been really frustrating dealing with DP5. DP4.6 was pretty stable for me although it corrupted prefs occasionally and crashed, but at least it was only occasionally and I was able to get my work done.

I'm praying that MOTU addresses these problems soon. I've sent them many emails requesting that they deal with it.
