Round robin with custom console?

Post by tcollins »

Is it possible to create a "round robin" effect using a MIDI plugin or custom console in DP 4.6.1? I'm using up/down violin bowstrokes on an Akai sampler (on different channels). So I need each repeated note to route to a different MIDI channel in a device group.
Thanks

I thnk the solution to this problem is simply to rethink the solution. Rather than go for a glitchy approach, like a custom console, where you will spend more time making the console than it would have taken to hand-fix the bowings, try using the search feature instead. Set up a series of searches (under the Edit menu, of course) and save them. You should include the rhythmic attributes of the lines you're going to be changing (a search for straight-8ths, another for stright 16ths, another for dotted 8th/16th patterns, etc.). Then every time you enter a line of music, select it and choose one of the searches for that line. It will instantly hilight the notes you want hilighted, and it will perform the operation you want (cut, copy, etc.) or you can just physically drag it into the "up bow" track.

If you need one track that contains all the notes (for score purposes) make that a duplicate track and option-drag the other tracks into it. Keep that in a track folder for score purposes--oh... that's a DP 5.01 feature; never mind, but I'll leave it for others. In your case, you can just drag the score tracks to the bottom or something. Incidentally, you can move tracks with the Control key held down while you hit PageUp, PageDown, Home, and End. (Check the COMMANDS window for details)

I hope that works for you. The search feature in DP is one of the most powerful editing tools we have, and yet most DP users do not know it exists.
