hi-
I am having trouble getting my headphone amp (Behringer HA4700) to work with a stereo mix from my 828MkII.
my question is; is it possible to use this headphone amp without using the SPDIF-workaround offered by forum poster crankz1?
It works, but here's 2 reasons i don't want to use it;
1- it adds an extra ouput/input which is effecting my CPU.
2-i've had trouble with my SPIDF and i'd prefer not to use it.
any ideas?
(here is crankz1's workaround):
Set Cubase master output bus to SPDIF
Patch SPDIF out to SPDIF in on back of MOTU
Open CueMix ....
Mix Bus 1 - Set output to main and bring up the SPDIF faders all the way. You also need to pan the SPDIF channels (left channel all the way left and right channel all the way right).
Mix Bus 2 - Copy settings from Mix Bus 1 and set output to whatever output pair your headphone amp is connected to.
Mix Bus 3 & 4 - Drop all faders and mute the outputs unless you are using them for other monitoring mixes. In that case, adjust accordingly.

You can always make use of track/group sends within your sequencer to create separate monitor mixes.
This gives you greater control of send levels to each monitor mix instead of just mimicking the master output bus via the S/PDIF loop.
I guess the same could hold true if you where to use the headphone output of the MOTU to feed your H/P amp, as you can set the headphone output to mimic the mains. Just don't feed to hot of a signal from the headphone output.
It all depends on what you really want to do.
If you're on a PC and would like to see some awesome routing flexibility of a DAW program .... I'd suggest you check out Reaper. It's still maturing .... but it's one to watch.

thanks for the reply;
i am using Live 5 as my sequencer and want to make use of the Cue function which sets a different output to the headphones.
i've tried using the headphone output from the 828, but was unable to get a stereo mix in the Behringer headphone amp.
this should be so common and so easy!!! i'm surprised that it is otherwise....
