That don't matter any; I tend to feel these things, esp. the important ones.

Hankering for an opportunity to see the Trilogy. Still don't know the story (makes it more exciting), even 'though my close friend growing up in S.Africa read them when he was roughly 10 years old. His enthusiasm for the saga rubbed off on me, and all these decades later... :D
Just not sure whether I'd "spoil it" by watching before reading...

I say watch the first film, then start reading the books before watching the remaining two films. Sometimes getting started with such an enormous bit of literature can detain one from reading and sticking to it. I'd read the prologue and was lost at first with all the new terms--- and the new uses of old terms. I found the supplimental reading more gratifying once my curiosity was raised. But my love for the books, even after the fact, is paramount. I've since read most of Tolkien, and am still reading and re-reading!!

There are one or two minor "departures" from the books in terms of plot (much like this post from this thread :P ), but the pros and cons are about even and ultimately inconsequential to the essence of the story, unlike a lot of other book-to-film endeavors. Overall, the films are handsomely respectful of Tolkien's intent.

Crimminey. Back to M5!!

I'm going to try to convert my first sample library later today. What I'd love to do is to create an mp3 of, say, a violin excerpt with different collections just to fuel the discussion of how M5 might be used in that context. Of course, with the diversity of instruments available, each instrument will likely command its own side discussion. But, that gives us more to talk about!! :D

I'm particularly interested in layering for the sake of adding depth and complexity to otherwise one-dimensional sounds like strings. I suspect that drums and percussion will be among the simplest of instruments to employ.

Crikey, what an endorsement for the flicks, coming from you Frodo!
Thank you. I'll be watching them much sooner now (went off Hollywood long ago).

Wow. That's why we all luv ya, Frod's!
Great Idea, especially for someone who, as we discussed, might be starting "with a clean slate".
Good luck converting dem first samples...
You are the man! Er, sorry; the Hobbit!

First off, I love that word "crickey" (or croikey, as the case may be  !!).

Secondly, no Hollywood with this one. Much of these films' charm is the fact that they were done in NZ by a New Zealander. Certain overused film clichés were nicely circumnavigated.

I'm particularly proud of the fact that the first film featured half my relatives!!

You are the man! Er, sorry; the Hobbit!
Cheers, M!! :P Right back atcha!

Not often enough in life to we get a clean slate to work with. If you've seen my long report on EWQL Symphonic Choirs in the DP forum (and the time it was posted) you've probably guessed that I didn't get around to M5 and sample format conversion.

So much to do-- digging more deeply into DP, discovering new things about 5.01 as well as 4.61 After 10 years with it, there are more uncharted waters with this app than I thought. Not sure that I can make use of them all, but discovery is fun!

More soon--

So I've heard, which is one reason I've procrastinated on watching them. I knew I'd be in for a treat. Good vs evil at its best is what I expect, and no less!

A fortunate spin-off of an unfortunate situation (money). :D

Discovery is surely fun; and life.
Relax, dude; we've all had to wait so long. Do what ya gotta do!
Besides, it's better to be the tortoise than the hare methinks!
Your dilligence is appreciated by all and sundry, I'm sure...
Three cheers for Frodo etc.
Now; please remember to give at least 12 hours notice when you need more sandwiches.
Good luck with the never-ending quest...

LOL!! Haven't you heard? Hobbits are ALWAYS hungry! This is a little character trait Tolkien includes in the books which was nicely honored in the first film. (Won't give it away...)

But, as we wait for our beloved software to update itself-- we can pass the time between rumors and research to watch the LOTR Trilogy of films. That's 10 hours + put to good use right there. In a pinch, reading the books is even more enjoyable!

Oh, Machy-Machy-- where art thou?

Yaaay!
10 ho-urs, 10 ho-urs+, 10 ho-urs, 10 ho-urs+... :D

Could be dangerous to start reading now...
You wouldn't want to give MOTU an excuse to drag their feet any more on this one!

Cool! Great title for a new thread, too?
It seems to be "catching on" already!

Take care, young Hobbit; you are indeed valuable!
Now; back to my chanting...
Go Machy! Go Machy! Go Machy!

Cool; right back at ya.

BTW, I'm a "2 numb fingers" typist, and what with this whole posting thing being new to me, those "5 nested qoutes in one post" efforts were (almost!) killing me. :D
Must say 'though; it was more fun than a stick. What a hoot.

I'm sure you won't take it the wrong way if I say you're a "darling", and a sweet man.
The world sure could do with more of ya!

I'll TRY to take that break too. Better tie up any other "loose threads"!
Cheers, you complete Hobbit you, and enjoy...
