I hope this topic is not too obvious to some people but it still confuses me and I think that this would be beneficial to know for my future performances.
On the MOTU website for DP, under live performance, it says:
"With sample-accurate playback, you can even set up redundant DP workstations with instant, transparent cutover."
How is this done? Does this mean that several computers are playing the same file simultaneously (synced) and if one DP computer craps out, then there will not be a loss of signal during the performance?
Or something totally different?
Thanks!
Terence

Yeah-- it sounds as if the term "transparent cutover" refers to having more than 1 computer running DP during a live session with all of them ready to kick in should one of them fail.
The "transparency" at first glance might refer to the ability to see certain functions of all the DP workstations on a single screen--- but there is so much about DP5 that I'm just learning and discovering. I am seriously considering getting a some sort of network setup now, and any enhancement in DP to facilitate this process is of keen interest.
(Maybe it's me, but is "transparent cutover" all that common a term? I've seen "cutover" often enough.)
Prime Seconds, Work Quanta, and Work Percent are among the many new features that contribute, for example, to more flexibility in how to better manually optimize CPU loads. With a network, having such control of the "slaves" appears to be quite indispensable.
Time for me to go back and RTFM some more!
Thanks, biv, for the observation!
