Incredible MIDI N00b

Well, since you all have been so kind to help me with previous issues:

I have a secondhand M-Audio Radium 49 controller that I like to use for sketching song ideas in GarageBand and DP 4.6.1. So far, I've been using the mouse to change the parameters in the software (the keys work, as well as pitch and modulation), but I have 8 faders and 8 pan pots on the Radium 49 and I don't know how to use them to control the plugins and/or software I'm using.

I've been looking through the manual under control surfaces (maybe I need to look elsewhere?) and the MIDI device groups, but it may as well be in Greek because I know next to nothing about MIDI connectivity. I know what it is and what it does, but how it needs to be set up.... well, I just don't get it.

Maybe a page number in the 4.6.1 manual to guide me in the right direction?

I'm guessing it's not one of those "quick-answer" questions.

Am I to understand that I'd have to program those faders and rotory encoders individually for each plugin in each program? Because that's all I can think of. And that kind of sucks as far as trying to save time. Might as well just use my mouse to adjust parameters.

Side question:

What is your opinion on Soundtrack? I have yet to install it as I'm afraid it'll be another thing that will take up more of my time, and my girlfriend will wind up killing me. Is it worth installing?

I think so. I was actually hoping you discovered a neat trick.

Soundtrack or Soundtrack Pro? If it is the former, I never found much use for it.

Soundtrack Pro however has a number of the Logic Pro plugins, some of which are very sweet. It's also not a bad app for mastering, although it isn't up to the level of Peak. So depending on your software situation, if you have Soundtrack Pro, it's got some very good reasons to install it.

So basically I should just stick with DP to do ADR, Foley, and film composition? (bear in mind, I am pretty new to post production A for V. and am interested in at least having the ability should something come my way)

Is VocAlign (included in 4.6.1) acceptable for ADR use? It seems pretty nice.
