Hello gentle MOTUfiles.
I have a one month old Ultralite that works fine with my 15" PowerBook (1.67 GHZ, 2 GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.6) but continually drops off-line when connected to my G5 (2004 2 x 2 GHZ, 4,5 GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.6).
It does this no matter which FW port is used on the UL or the G5 and with all 4 of my FW cables. And it makes no difference whether or not it's being powered by the supplied AC adaptor or the FW bus. Only the MAIN audio outs are connected.
Immediately prior to dropping off-line the screen jumps through several menu items. Powering it down and rebooting it more often than not drops me into the Firmware Version screen. No other menu items can be selected.
Re-installing the most recent MOTU FW Audio drivers and components works until it doesn't. Sometimes a few minutes, sometimes a few hours.
Is anyone else having issues like these with their G5's or other Macs or after upgrading Mac OS to 10.4.6?
Any info at all would be appreciated.

hi there. I had similar problems using the Ultralite with a MacBook Intel.
It turns out that it couldn't handle the external hard drive I was using (a firewire lacie porsche chained to the motu). If you're using a chained hard drive with the card, I would suggest to unplug it and run some tests without it, or with another hard drive. I'm still trying to figure out why exactly.
I'm running Mac OS 4.7
hope this helps...

Ultralite replaced
A follow up to my original post of my Ultralite dropping offline:
Turns out that the day after I wrote the original post the main off/ on/ volume knob came off in my hand. The Ultralite had been transported only once, in a hard-shell case and was surrounded by foam so it had not taken a beating.
I wrote to MOTU Tech Support and they agreed to take it back. It was replaced with a brand new unit within ten days and the new Ultralite has been trouble free.
I have a Firewire hub so never connected any other external Firewire devices to the unit.
All is well.
