I second the pitch/time improvements.
Also... this is really simple, but, please give us multiple speeds on fast forward and rewind. When you click fast forward/rewind the first time, you'll get normal speed. Upon the next click, you'll get a faster speed and so on. FF and FR are so painfully slow in DP because there's only one speed which is hardly faster than real-time. This is especially painful for those of us using control surfaces with transport controls. We want to use those hands-on buttons but they just aren't that useful at 2-times real-time... C'mon MOTU, this would be so easy and save me so much time over the course of a session!
I would also love to see DP follow track selections via a control surface. Example, when you select a track on a control surface, DP's mixer window would highlight the track you selected. It could even take advantage of the touch-sensitive faders like Logic does. In Logic, when you touch a fader, it recognizes what channel you are on and highlights the track in the mixing window automatically. As of now in DP, nothing ever highlights in the mixing window regardless of what you do on your control surface...
I guess I'm just asking for better integration with control surfaces in general. Or better yet... maybe MOTU will release their own control surface for DP. I would be all over it if they did since there really is no great control surface that supports DP 100%. All these other brands, Mackie/Tascam/etc just pretend to support DP. Half the features work the way you'd like, the rest work half way or not at all, leaving a very frustrated user. Man, I long for a control surface as integrated as the Pro Tools control surfaces without having to buy Pro Tools!

you do know that you can assign next/previous measure to keys? its far faster than the default ff/fr. Have a look in the Commands window.rainmaker wrote:FF and FR are so painfully slow in DP because there's only one speed which is hardly faster than real-time.

Same here (I also have a dual 2.7). It's such a drag, I only use 4.61 now. $200. badly spent....Foxman wrote:Please general ON/OFF switch for Always Run In Real-time mode !!!
This option is for me unnecessary (G5 2.7 DP) .Plugins window open time is too long, produce frustrating sound effect and time by time crasch my DP5.
This mode is more controversial news.
i was just searching for a way to increase the ffwd/rew speed, and came across this thread. the next/previous measure command is faster, unless it's during playback, which just keeps clicking back to the same spot. in other words, it's not a viable alternative.you do know that you can assign next/previous measure to keys? its far faster than the default ff/fr. Can't help on the HDTV and RTAS issues, but I'm always up for a beer!!tripit@earthlink.net wrote:Fix the frigin RTAS.

Oh yeah, and how about 23.97fps since we're already moving into
the world of HD TV and film.
BTW-- have you seen the link to uninstall/reinstall QT?
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ ... aller.html
The QuickTime 7.0.1 Reinstaller will remove QuickTime 7.0.2 or later and restore your system to QuickTime 7.0.1.
It's helped a couple of DP users already.

New Features for DP5.1
I have always been pleased with MOTU's upgrade offerings but there are still a few things as an audio engineer that I would like to see. These would also take DP much higher as a professional studio solution.
1. Control Room section with monitoring options and control room level like most professional mixers.
2. Real Snap Shot mixer recall (scene files) which includes all mixer settings including plugins and aux routing. Even the Yamaha O2R did this quite well.
3. Soloing (in place) to the above control room bus which would not interupt stereo bus, surrond bus or track recording. All professional mixers have this capability.
4. Automatic multi-take recording so you can set up a looping section to record a new take on each pass. (I personally don't like anything about the way Polar works).
5. Take Tracks, for assembling takes into completed tracks by muting selected soundbites in takes just like we do in the sequence editor.
6. Built in Chromatic instrument tuner.
7. Talkback/listen system with dimming options.
8. Graphical face-lift, DP's user interface could use a bit of updating particularly a more obvious difference in the look between track types, (MIDI, Aux, Instrument, audio etc..) they tend to look very similar, this would improve the user interface quite a bit on large diverse projects. Also the transport section takes a lot more screen real estate than it needs to.
Also an accessory tray to hold my coffee cup would be nice, Although we might have to wait for DP6 for that.

I would like to see better support of Broadcast Wave files, which are pretty much the industry standard now. Pro Tools, who invented SDII, now 'strongly suggest' shen you start a new session, that you run it in Broadcast Wave format rather than SDII.
Even if DP decide to maintain SDII as the internal format, they should at least implement a proper export from the soundbites list that maintains the timestamp properly in both SDII and Broadcast Wave (and AIFF, but I don't think AIFF supports timestamping). Currently it doesn't export any format with the timestamp intact.

DP can do that.WSVP wrote:4. Automatic multi-take recording so you can set up a looping section to record a new take on each pass. (I personally don't like anything about the way Polar works).
Just set up a section to be looped record enable a track and hit record DP will record every pass on a new take track.
Re: New Features for DP5.1
Yes please. I remember watching a demonstration for PT LE where they showed such a feature to be able to combine sections from different takes right with in one audio track.WSVP wrote:5. And what the other guy mentioned about easily ungrouping track groups is highly on my wish list. Maybe some place in the mixer window? A little latch switch, let's say at the right of each group of tracks?
Please.

Thanks chaim, as long as I have been using DP I never realized that. It also has to be set to overdub record mode to work.WSVP wrote:

I'd like to see:
1. DP have an integrated CueMix besides a separate app for PC and non DP use.
2. more windows usable in in Consolidated Windows.
3. A plugin "base station" or plugin device group (a dedicated one) to keep VI's and plugins organized rather than floating to the back or lingering on top of other windows-- something akin to the soundbites list for all plugins in use.
4. Programmable Key Commands for ALL pulldown menus

the new set sounbite gain is almost great.... so close to my fairlight is tantalising....
just mixed a 30 min TV show with it - had an OMF from FCP along with QT DV file
would be better if it had a "trim" version - ie a key whereby you trimmed by an amount as opposed to now its set it to that amount
so if i entered 3 db it would make it 3 db louder
now I need to remember what the gain for the soundbite was set to before -
situation:
enter 3 on a bite- not loud enough - so have to enter 6
come back a few mins later and want to change it - still not quite loud enough - can't remember what I entered.. so have to start over again.. was it a 3 - oops thats quieter than before..
Then DP would really cut it in the post world....
( or at least allow the trim clip gain function to have a user adjustable increment 0.5 db are baby steps when it comes to mixing into compressor limitor on a TV show with a deadline)
