Performance menu is empty?

Post by mixo »

Hi, installed MachFive just now and updated to the last version.
I click on Performance menu and i see: Empty Performance and below i see •••••• Soundbanks •••••• . I move the mouse on it and open a submenu where i can see the numbered list of categories (00-Tutorial Sounds, 01-Soundlib Bosendorfer, etc...) and the next submenu is: No Preformances. BUT in 04-Drum Kits i can see 2 performances, and if i click on it i see an alert window and MachFive don't find the Soundbank and the preset. CAN YOU HELP ME?

P.S. i can load the soundbank in Soundbank Menu, also can load the preset, but i can't load from Performance menu.

Everything is just installed.

Explain me please!!!

Hey Mixo,

I've been using MachFive for a few months now. Please allow me to shed some light on your subject. As far as Performances are concerned, they are primarily there to load "ALL" of the parameters that you have used for a song or multi instrument setup.

Here are a few examples:

1. Let's say that you have a song you're working on and assign an instrument to each MIDI channel. You now have a 16 part performance which is no different from assigning 16 parts on a Triton, Motif, or a Fanton. Now option click the Performance name and change it to the name of your song. When you make changes to anything in MachFive for your song, MachFive will save those changes in the performance file.

*Note that changes you your presets and samples are not save at this time, you must save that information seperately. It's no different than changing the patch or voice on a hardware synth. If you change one of those, it will not be reflected in the performance file.

2. If you are using MachFive where you have 4 MIDI channels assigned to the same channel (1) to create a stacked instrument. Example: A Horn section. In this horn section you want to stack Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, and a Trumpet. You can save this performnce as "My Horn Section" and recall it to be played in another instace of MachFive.

I hope this helps.

I understood perfectly but...
in a new fresh installation of MachFive i found some Performance presets by default.
Tryng to call that presets, MachFive don't find anything and give me an alert window: cant'find samples... etc...

Something is wrong on the installation?

Hey Mixo,

I'm not sure what to say here. I have a few questions.

1. Where do you keep your M5 Folder?
Boot Drive, Firewire external drive, on a partitioned drive?

2. Did you move any folders within your M5 folder after the installation?
If so, move everything back to their original location.

3. Are you able to load a preset at all?

If not, try selecting a soundbank from the soundbank window and selecting a preset from the preset selection. Let's not think about loading it from a "Performance" point of view at this point.

Please let me know,

I'm going to try to load a factory "Performance" when I get home. I understand where you are with this issue. I am thinking about your issue is similar to what happened to me the other day. I was attempting to load an "Organ preset" and nothing was there, although the presets were there. I had to go to the Organs presets in the M5 Folder and add the .M5p extention on the file so M5 to recognize the preset.

I'll investigate this and post my results this evening.

Hey Mixo,

This is what I found.
To begin with, I clicked on "Performance" and the list did appear. The only
"Performances" that did appear to have something there were Surround Church Organ & Drum Kits.

*Bear in mind that Performances have the extention .M5m

I clicked on the Performance for Surround Church organ and two names appeared. 1. Expert Chords 2.Keyboard & Pedalier. Each of them loaded without a glitch.

I clicked on the Performance for Drum Kits and another story started to develope.

I clicked on the Natural Drum Kit as well as the Simple Drum Kit. YES!!!, as I tried to load each of them, I got the error message saying that it could not find the samples. However, As I investigated further, I looked in the presets folder and found floders labeled 01 Mega Kits, 02 Sorted, 03 Elements. Inside the Elements folder, I found w/Velocity switch folder and then the Bass Drum 1 Skin Loose1.M5p appears. When I went to the samples folder, I found the exact sample from the error message I got earlier about not finding the sample.

If everything else loads fine, you have everything in place. Don't Worry.
Performances exist so you can create a bigger mix of instruments and recall them at a click of a button. I don't see what's wrong at this point.

I am having the same type of problem that Mixo is having. I saved several performances using "Save and Convert Performance as Soundbank." I can see the resulting files and folders in my MachFive sounds folder but when I open an instance of MachFive and click on Performance, none of the performances I saved show up. The only thing that shows up is a performance I saved last year, but even with that performance, when I try to load it, I get messages that it cannot find the various soundbanks and presets. Yet when I look in the folder for that performance, the soundbanks, samples, and presets in question are there.

I also installed the latest MachFive update but to no avail.

Does anyone have any clues about this?
