Levels changes everytime I start the sequence over in DP??
I am using Kontakt 2 in DP 5.01. Kontakt has a volume
adjustment for each instrument in the rack. I want to raise
this slider up in Kontakt so I get a hotter signal coming out
of Kontakt when I record each instrument to an audio track in DP.
If you're familiar with Kontakt, you know this slider is set at anywhere from
-12 db to -6 db in it's default position.
Everytime I raise this slider up in Kontakt, and then recue DP from the beginning of the sequence.the slider (in Kontakt) goes back to it's default setting. Do I need to insert a CC#7 message at the beginning of my
MIDI track in DP? How are other people dealing with this ?
Thanks,
Tom

with volume of the instruments of redrum...
I have this issue with Stylus RMX. DP is automatically spitting out MIDI volume data based on the fader position in the Mixer. If I change the volume in Stylus, when I stop and replay, the volume returns to the fader position. So, you don't need to "write" automation, just move the MIDI fader... at least that's how it works with Stylus. I have Kontakt as well, but I don't use it that often and haven't run into this issue. I'm sure some of it has to do how it's set up to respond to MIDI data.

Thanks everyone for your tips. I still don't understand why the fader in Kontakt will only go to its default position which is about halfway. I can move the fader in DP on the MIDI track and the fader in kontakt will move up and down, but even if I push the fader on the MIDI track all of the way up, the Kontakt fader will only go up halfway, which I guess equates to
full MIDI volume at 127.
Tom
full MIDI volume at 127.

Many MIDI instruments will respond to DP's MIDI fader position - you shouldn't have to insert CC7s. That's where you want to control the position of the instrument sliders in Kontakt. Additionally there's another volume 'knob' inside each K2 instrument that will give you a volume change that will not be effected by MIDI data (unless you assign it to do so w/in K2). Good luck.Everytime I raise this slider up in Kontakt, and then recue DP from the beginning of the sequence.the slider (in Kontakt) goes back to it's default setting. Do any of you have "chase events" activated while experiencing this quirk?
Yep, it may be necessary to set a starter CC volume level # at the beginning, but I can't sort out why there would be some sort of volume reset, unless a controller command somehow appeared by accident at the beginning of one of the tracks...

How odd about Kontakt. Is there any purpose or convenience for this default reset? I'm having a hard time sorting out where or why this would be useful.sndhse wrote:...When you close the file and then reopen Kontakt will no doubt, jump back to its default position, unless DP is set to chase CC#7 in "Set Event Chasing"
Hope that helps.

It's an easy enough fix, but doesn't that just create needless steps for users when dozens of tracks are in play? I would think having Kontakt reset to default would most often be the exception and not the rule.
I have K2 on my list of items to buy, but am also curious to know if this "default reset" can be deactivated in K2's preferences? hmmmm____

One more thing you might want to look at in Kontakt 2.11. In this updated version they added a "MIDI controller volume range" this function will not allow you to go past the halfway point on Kontakts slider. (I know kinda stupid it should be a global control) The default position in Kontakt is (-oo..-6) change it to (-oo.. 12dB) This will give you full range of the slider in DP. Unfortunately you have to change it for every instrument added, or you will only have 1/2 the fader range available to you.
Open Kontakt, load new instrument, open the editor (the little wrench) you will see "Instrument Options" open it. Click on "Controller" within this submenu you will see "MIDI Controller #7 (Volume) range". In the drop down menu make your selection. -oo.. 12dB This will give you full fader range.
Good luck

Sure-- I'll send you a PM in a moment.sndhse wrote:Frodo. I took a screen shot of this function, but not sure how to display it within the forum for all to see. Could I email it to you?

fyi-- if you have your own webspace, you can post the image there, then use the [img]&[/img] tags here, with the url of the image between them.
Thanks in advance for the photo...
(Still, K2.xx seems to be a lot of trouble out of the box... can't wait to see the image.)
