You may be able to get by with a simple third party FW card too dont forget..
Sounds like youre gonna go out and get a whole new motherboard but check out the cards first! May save you alot of trouble and alot of work rebuilding your system hehe.
Only motherboard I can recommend would be the Asus P4P800E, which we have a ton of here at work.. Of course it does have integrated ethernet and audio but, they do in fact say Texas Instruments in device manager when you look at the 1394 controller.

Mothra,
I just meant I was going to get a TI FW card since my cheap no-name one with an NEC chipset doesn't seem to be doing the job. Neither does the onbard VIA. Didn't mean new Mobo
. sorry for the confusions.
I'm just trying to see if I can get both of my 896's working on my PowerBook G4 to make sure it isn't a hardware issue. But of course, I have problems with Nuendo to be able to use both 896's at once...

Echo4Sierra spends a month trying to get the units to sync but his only posts here are both in this thread hyping the RME units. Not to say they are not possibly better but thats pretty fishy. They do look like nice units but seriously why come here and make this post?

For what it's worth I have been using 2 896's for about three years together. I wouldn't mind upgrading my rig but I can't yet afford to. This post reaks of faux hype and such.

I have an 896HD, an 828mkII and an Octopre linked together. No problems. Oh, well, I did manage to find a used Digital Timepiece, which helps big time.
Is it just the PC people who have synch troubles?

For the most part I think.. Although I have seen complaints from Mac guys too.. But most of this went away with Tiger and the Aggregate Device option that came with it..
I think DP can still use multiple MOTU interfaces natively without using an Aggregate Device, as can AudioDesk, but well theyre MOTU devices after all hehe.
Us Logic kids still have to use AudioMidi Setup and make em, but yeah they seem to be working fine for the few I know that run em.

Seems like people have less trouble with their MOTU's on Mac systems. Maybe I should get a brand new Dual-G5 system. hah, right, like I can afford that.
Just got an TI FireWire card and still seeing the same problem. I'm basically out of ideas, tried just about everything (that I can think of).
Seems like it's worse with the TI firecard, strange enough as that sounds. Could be incompatibility with the MoBo or something, who knows at this point really.
Tim (very frustrated.....)

Mothra,
Yes, the onboard FW is by VIA. I went out and bought a TI FW card, still no luck. I'm starting to think that this MOBO is really bad with the FW devices. Who knows....

do you guys who get all pissy when people tell you non motu gear works better? do you own stock in motu or something?
what's the problem?
this aint a shiite vs. suni kind of discussion.
no ones life depends on what software or hardware they run.
i believe the poster is talking about running motu software as smoothly as he can. it is useful info.
relax guys.

No, but do you have anything better to do than make a useless post to a four month old thread? The last post to this thread was January 7 and then you come along with a "do you guys have to get pissy" post months after it ended. What value is that?quincyg wrote:do you guys who get all pissy when people tell you non motu gear works better? do you own stock in motu or something?

For what it's worth... since someone brought it up... this forum was intended to be primarily a forum for MACINTOSH users, but since this is indeed the hardware forum, Windows people post in there, which is fine... but your issues and experiences are often quite different from Mac users.

MOTU 896's, sync, XP issues
Hey Guys,
I am running three MOTU 896's, Win XPP, and NO external sync! They work great together. I have all three in a travel case. Quite impressive to have a portable 24 track Digital portable studio!
I have one precaution for power-up problems with my setup. It used to re-boot my computer when I would power up the MOTU's. I now power-up all devices and THEN connect the firewire one cable. So there all you Windows users, it can work!
Having fun with my "toys"!

Many studio condensers

"Post your MOTU horror stories here."
I bought a PC once - there's muliple horror stories for you!
Also bought numerous macs - had a 24I/O,896HD and 828mk1 all running sweet on a G4 dual 867 with OSX tiger using consolidated device - don't you just love those happy endings!

no wonder you MOTU guys have so many problems, you can't read the manual! it's always the same thing with any gear, when there's a problem the user blames the gear and half, or, most the time, it's the interface between the chair and the computer that is the problem...mothra wrote:Umm, psss.
