Boutique guitar pedal query

Post by chrispick »

Hey folks,

I'm thinking of shopping for some unique, possbile boutique guitar pedals. What do you guys use and like? I realize that's a broad question, but at this stage anything's game.

I will say I'm set for a good tube distortion pedal. I have a H&K Tube Factor which I like. I'll also add that I have modeled modulation effects up the wazoo.

What I'm looking for are one-trick pedals that have their own unique sound quality. Real McCoys -- no modeled stuff.

Any suggestions?

I've been looking into the H&K Tube Factor myself as one of five possible distortion boxes that might work well with bass guitar (I've already been through a number of them over the years). I rarely use fuzz bass, but would like to have access to it occasionally, without losing all of my bottom end (of course one option is to do a signal split).

As for custom boutique pedals, have you tried the Option5 stuff? Or the Moogerfooger series? They're certainly differentiated from the pack (moreso with the Moog stuff).

I haven't tried it with a bass yet. I don't have a bass cabinet. When I do fuzz bass stuff, I DI the bass, then mix in Guitar Rig 2 to taste. Works for me.

Have you looked at Fulltone Bass-Drive? They advertise it as being low-end friendly.

I intend to try some of the Moogerfooger stuff. Wasn't aware of Option 5. Looks kinda interesting, although I haven't a pressing need for their current small selection.

Thanks for the suggestions. Anyone else?

Check out these....Namely, the RC Booster...AC Booster....and the BB Preamp....I have all three, and personally, have not heard anything better....I set them up in front of a 4x10 Bassman RI, set to a clean warm tone...Then using these pedals, I can go from a jazz tone, to full out shred....
My stomp box obsession, stopped dead in it's tracks, after I got these.

has boost and drive channels - responds like an amp.

Word on the street is that some new fuzz and distortion pedals will be released soon.
