2408 mkII and Behringer ADA8000 connection

Post by dpinion »

Greetings all,
I am going to be using the Berhinger ADA8000 to send 8 channels ADAT into the 2408. I just wanted to know how I should go about syncing the 2 together. I have one ADAT cable to go from the ADA8000 to the 2408, as well as a word clock cable. I would just like to know how to connect them and set the proper clock sources.

Thanks

Hi,

There's a few different ways which would all work (in theory), but with just the two cables, you can go ADAT back to the 2408 via optical, and run the WC cable from the 2408's WC output, to the ADA's clock in. Then put the back panel switch of the ADA on WC in (on the "slave" side). I think you'll get a "locked" status light on the front panel when it gets a good clock signal from the MOTU.

You could also leave off the WC cable and put the 2408 in external sync, locked to whatever bank/port the optical is coming in on, from the ADA, and leave the ADA on one of the two "master" switch settings (44.1 or 48k). Or, with more cables, you could take a line back to the ADA as well, and slave via ADAT from the 2408. The actual WC line is probably the best, even if you are using a bi-directional ADAT link. I use an ADA for some mics, but also for a stereo system feed and the headphone cue lines (where the mics are), so I've got a send and return going with the 2408mk3. I'm supposed to be using a separate WC, but I've been too lazy to take one all through the wall with the others, so I've just had the ADA slaved to the MOTU's ADAT clock and it's been doing OK like that.

Take Care,

George
