New to 2408 (mkII), help with front panel LED's

Post by dpinion »

Greetings,
I recently acquired a 2408 MKII and have been having a heck of a time getting it to work with Windows XP SP 2. I don't have all my machine specs, but I will get them if anyone needs them. I think somehow the 2408 may have gotten placed in a mode I can't use. It doesn't seem to display anything on the LED's referencing inputs that are connected. For instance, if I plug a cable into Input 4, nothing on the front panel seems to indicate there is a connection. The only LED's that seem to consistently show up are the Sample rate LED (48000), and the "Bus" LED. The 2408 is being seen in PCI console, but nothing seems to be able to see the inputs. There are 4 LED's to the far right that seem to indicate which "mode" the 2408 is in, is there a way to "reset" the unit to its default state, or can someone tell me which LED (mode) it needs to be in? One more item, what buffer size should I be using? Is it preferred to use the smallest, largest, or someone in between?

Thanks for any help.

It sounds like you need a manual for the unit.

When you turn on your PC with the 2408 connected, the computer controls the routing of the 2408. You should have installed the control panel that allows you to change input and output settings and clock and resolution settings.

When using the unit with the computer shut off, you use the far right buttons to set input, output and clock.

You can download the XP drivers from MOTU.

Thanks for the information. I would LOVE to have a manual for it, but I seem to be pretty much out of luck in that department. You didn't mention anything about what I should be seeing for inputs on the 2408. Is there anything that should give me an indication that I have signals present? I do have the PCI console and Cuemix installed, and the PCI console does find the 2408 (although it tends to disappear if I click "refresh" in the console).

Are you plugging into the analog in/outs?

Thanks for the reply, sorry for not updating this post. I figured out the problem, which was the fact that I was using a motherboard with a VIA chipset. I ordered an Intel board and once I swapped it, everything started working and I have been recording since.. :O)
