When is MOTU going to include a Software level in CueMix?

Thats the menu option you click to have Mix 1/2 go into CueMix!!
Yeah they didnt make it too clear on the menu, it was in the readme file I mentioned before that told you what it actually did..

Man I hate the fact that most of the time I kill on these boards is at work and nowhere near my gear haha.

maybe it's not on the UltraLite, but it seems so similar to the 828mkII that I find that hard to believe. I don't remember seeing that in any version previously while I had the 828.

That emu thing sounds about right. That's ideally what should be setup for the MOTU units...CueMix 2.0

Back up, when I download all the latest software, there is no read me file at all, so I can't read anything about this. You mean go ahead and check the "return software mix to computer" or whatever it's called?

what i'd like to see is MIDI CC control over CueMix controls, and was actually somehow suprised to see that this wasn't available. what i'd like to do is have the levels (or at least some of them) for my gear running into the MOTU to be lowered at song start and fade in just as they're needed. at the end of the song it would fade out so i could switch patches without worrying about anything wierd happening (my Nord isn't great about transitioning between patches sometimes). of course if you're running your audio back through the computer this can be taken care of in your host app, i'm mostly talking about stand-alone use i guess. of course you'd need a hardware MIDI sequencer of some sort, but it'd be a nice option to have. do any of the other companies offer MIDI CC control over their DSP mix software? am i the only person that could use something like this?

I guess you have company out there.

For different use though, MIDI Control of Console would be just gr8.

synterx, sorry for the delay but yes make sure that option is checked and the Mix 1/2 faders should show up now in CueMix and you can add them to your mix setup there..

I dont think there are readme's with the newest software.. It was in one of the older 1.2 releases where it was.. I think they forget there are new people buying these everyday and they should include stuff like that with the later updates hehe..

it's crazy, but I've had that checked the whole time, and there is no additional sliders beyond 9/10 SPDIF. I think there is a bug concerning the UltraLite. In GarageBand or Logic, I see 12 inputs, which I found odd as there are only 10 - then I realized in Audio MIDI control panel, that the 11/12th channels are Mix 1/2...but those channels are not in cuemix anywhere. Must be some kind of a bug in cuemix concerning UltraLite.

doesnt work here. i still havent been able to control the overall "main vol" of the ultralite unless i use the knob on the ultralite. it would be nice to have software control of it.

The Mix1 pair is available in your host software only. This Mix1 pair carries the output of CueMix Bus 1 back to the computer. The File menu option in the CueMix Console ("Mix1 Return Includes Computer Output") toggles whether Mix1 will also contain audio playing back from the computer that's assigned to the same output pair as CueMix Bus 1.

For example, let's say you've got a drum kit, bass, and guitar playing back from Digital Performer, all assigned to Main Out 1-2 on an 828mkII. Let's also say that you want to overdub a keyboard part, and that you've achieved the sound you want by layering two keyboards (connected to Analog 1-2 and 3-4 on your 828mkII).
- In CueMix, set the output of Bus 1 to Main Out 1-2. Raise the faders for Analog 1-4, and set their levels & panning as you wish.
- In Digital Performer, set up a new stereo audio track and choose "Mix1 1-2" as its input. This input will carry the output of Bus 1 in CueMix -- in this case, your keyboard mix.
- If you then checked the "Mix1 Return Includes Computer Output" option, Mix1 would then carry your keyboard mix, plus all audio playing back from the computer that's routed to Main Out 1-2 -- in this case, drums, bass, & guitar.
- MAKE SURE that you don't assign your DP track with Mix1 as its input to Main Out 1-2 (or whatever CueMix Bus 1 is assigned to), as it will cause a feedback loop.

If you want to control the level of what's playing back from your software in the CueMix Console, you can:
- Assign CueMix Bus 1 to S/PDIF 1-2, and likewise assign the tracks playing back in your software to S/PDIF 1-2.
- Loop a cable from the S/PDIF output back to the S/PDIF input.
- Switch to CueMix Bus 2, and assign its output to Main Out 1-2. Pan the faders for S/PDIF 1-2 hard left & hard right, and adjust the level as you wish.

Alternately, a quick way to alter the playback level of your software tracks in Digital Performer:
- Insert a post-fader Trim plug-in on the Master Fader
- Set it to -24 (or any desired dim level), and bypass it.
- Whenever you want to dim your playback level, un-bypass the Trim plug-in.
Similar steps can be followed to achieve the same result in other software.

I still can not control the volume of everything unless i use the Main vol knob on the ultralite could someone please explain how to do this from cuemix?

I can't do that because my lexicon mpx-1 is connect to the S/PDIF ins/outs.

I would like a software control that also controls the main vol Knob on the Ultralite

You don't have to use the S/PDIF I/O -- you can use any pair of inputs/outputs, like an unused pair of analog I/O or the ADAT I/O.

i am using all inputs and outputs. i think you guys could put a control in cuemix with ease. come one!

I don't have the special Ultralite version that has the ADAT/IO or any ADAT/IO on anything else.

I am horribly confused by where this thread has gone. MOTU Tech Support has provided valuable information and has returned to the thread several times with additional help.

Yet now we are told that the MOTU 828 mk II does not have ADAT i/o??????

I will try to retread this entire thread to see where it went wrong, but at this point in time I am left with the impression that a re-read of the manual would be in order.
