If your not going to buy dp at least go to motu's site and buy one of the interactive tutorials they recommend. And one day when your least expecting it, at the most inconvienient moment....you'll wish you owned dp!
Macbook pro, 3 gigs of ram, osx 10.62, Dp 5.13, Live 8.1.2, Reason 4, Tc powercore Virus, Albino 3.02, proper ergonomic sitting posture, plenty of coffee (french press only with a pinch of cardamon added)
My dp inspired music.....

Because bozos with cracked copies try this all the time. And everyone here knows the game.TGdevil wrote:sorry, i was not aware there wasnt a pdf manual. Re: Digital Performer 5 manual
If you didn't buy DP, then you're screwed. The manual is over 1100 pages and only comes in printed form. If this is the case, you have three choices:TGdevil wrote:Hi

1. Buy DP so you can have the 1100 page manual
2. Get Audacity or Ardour, which are free programs that do much of what DP does.
3. Get GarageBand, which is inexpensive, and is capable of producing pro sounding recordings.
If you're a legit DP owner, you probably shouldn't expect to be able to use DP after only having it for a few days. You would do best to take some time to go through the manual and its tutorials before going out on the road with it.

Because you're a pirate with a cracked copy of DP. The manual IS DP's copy protection. You're not the first bloak to get castrated here for asking for a PDF manual. Hold still... we're not done with you yet.TGdevil wrote:And i have bought the program why eles would i be asking for a manual if i didnt have the program?

Hi
i dont want to argue but i was just wondering if there was one the main reason i dont carrie my manual around with me is for that exact reason it is 1100 pages long, i was just asking if the was a pdf manual that i could put onto my pocketpc to keep as a reference for when im on the road.
sorry for wasting your time.

Whether you bought DP or not, it isn't a program that you learn in a week. It's a very deep professional program. Assuming you did buy it, do yourself a favor and block out time to go through the manual while not working on projects. You'll only continue to frustrate yourself and get many of the MOTU users dander raised if you don't.
OTOH, if you didn't buy DP, then see my post upthread. I'm making no judgement on you one way or the other because only you know your true status, so it's incumbent on you to act accordingly.

It does seem a bit silly not to have a pdf version - its not very good anyway .
I remember trying to find the other day how you could change the default value of any not you drew in with the pencil - could I find it in the manual? Was it intuitive in the program itself? No and no.
I'm afraid the bloated manual says a lot about how the program works. Sorry to be negative.

I meant " I remember trying to find the other day how you could change the default value of any note you drew in with the pencil - could I find it in the manual? Was it intuitive in the program itself? No and no. "

You cannot set a default note value for the pencil tool. Why would there be an entry in the manual for something you can't do in the app? As for the behavior of the pencil tool in terms of defining note length, I think page 292 in the DP 4.5 manual makes it pretty clear.Guitar Gaz wrote:I remember trying to find the other day how you could change the default value of any note you drew in with the pencil - could I find it in the manual? It's funny, people seem to either praise or pan the manual. I'm starting to suspect that it's usefulness is determined by the way it's used. When I first got DP, I read the manual pretty much cover to cover. It's really the only manual I've ever done that with, and I think I probably would not have done so had the manual been poorly outlined and written. As a result, I learned the app through and through. If I ever need to consult the manual, I know just where to look.
However, I wonder if I would feel the same about the manual if I had only used it for reference right off the bat. If I didn't really understand DP and the overall design philosophy of the manual, would I be able to find something I was looking for just by consulting the index? I don't know.
