ultralite setup
hiya--anyone help with how to setup in's and outs for this scene: i want to be able to run my keyboards thru an analog mixer(yamaha mg12/4) and the ultralite with my computer off and also to use it with my sonar daw. can i do this without repatching cords??
should be no problem, though what exactly do you need to do? ie -
synth A > MG inputs 7/8
synth B > MG inputs 9/10
synth C > MG inputs 11/12
microphone > UL input 1
MG stereo outs > UL inputs 3/4
UL main outs > monitors
something like this i guess along with some more info would give a better idea if this is possible or not...

hiya-- thanx for reply,i'll give it a try. before i posted i have it patched as follows and i'm getting very little meter readings(2-3 bars) on ultralite and some artifacts(ie scratchyness and slight distortion)
synth a > mg input3
synth b > mg input4
lexicon effects >aux1
main outs to ulite inputs 1 and 2
ulite main outs to monitors
ulite outputs 1 and 2 > mg inputs 1 and 2
i wanted to use lexicon effects in my daw(sonar4) without sapping cpu
any comments??

no mam-- we're musicians Blues Bros.
well, first thing to note (though i'm sure you're aware of this) is to make sure you don't get a feedback loop going by having the MOTU's 1/2 outputs running back into the mixer. ie - make sure they're not turned up at any time that you have any other signals going from the mixer to the MOTU. there's probably other ways to route that, but i'm guessing you've got your own system worked out.
also, you may have to raise the gain on MOTU inputs 1/2 coming from the mixer, and be sure to pan them hard left/right. (why do i think you've already done all this?) i thought the volume was pretty low as well when i first hooked it up, i had to raise the gains more than half way on my inputs. as for noise, i'm not sure. i'm absolutely amazed at how silent of a mixing environment the MOTU provides. i've used Mackie mixers in the past and there's always been some evidence of line noise when it's totally cranked. on the UltraLite i can turn everything all the way up and get nothing but the slightest airy hiss. haven't used the Yamaha mixers, hopefully it's not outputting too much line noise (shouldn't be that really).
as for using the Lexicon, which unit do you have? i've got an MPX-1 which i'd like to run straight to the MOTU using the s/pdif i/o on both units. i think this would be the better option because i'm sure i hear some noise coming out of that when using 1/4" cables. hopefully that'll work out great, i've just got to get some cables.
hope this helps a bit and isn't completely redundant.
