DP5 Manual was meant to be in colour?

Post by mhschmieder »

Hmm, I thought I remembered someone saying the DP5 manual was in colour. My copy of DP5 just arrived an hour ago, and the manual is more black than black and white :-). Looks like a bunch of uncorrected photos or xeroxes of a colour proof.

No big deal as I'll be looking at the screen for the visuals anyway, but a fairly large chunk of the images in the manual are all-black or almost all-black. Surely this was a mistake? Or maybe the first batch of manuals were printed in colour, and when they switched to black and white they forgot to adjust the contrast accordingly?

Mine's that way too. I have just skimmed through it but there seem to be a lot of images that are useless, retangular black splotches. So much for quality control.

I was about to upgrade but might hold off awhile to see if the next batch off the press is a bit better! Anyone have a decent manual?

Both of my manuals are black and white for the new DP5, but they are easy to read.

Mine looks good too. Cover is in color, but all the figures are greyscale and while a few are a bit darker or lighter, all are quite readable.

Never heard it would be in color. That would add quite a bit to the cost.

Here in the UK my manuals are black and white, as usual. Seems the contrast is a fair bit Darker than the 4.5 manual, but the only problem pages seem to be pages 790-793, some of the graphs for the Masterworks EQ, and some of the illustrations for the VIs between pages 868-878.... rest of the book seems OK.

I agree...the DP5 manual's print quality is below what
we are used to getting from MOTU...however the content
is still stellar...
