DP5 MOTU Audio Driver Dropouts
ever since upgrading to DP5 I have had many Dropout in Audio while running heavy sequences... something in the 70% processor usage... I loose ALL audio for about 5-6 seconds. sometimes It comes back by itself, otherwise I have to stop the sequence and restart.
I realize that MOTU had done some nice enhancments to the audio system, like being able to edge edit soundbites while sequence is running without getting any audio dropout, but these changes to the audio system might be causing some other problems..
ANYONE out there experiencing similar things?

There are indeed some strange problems ion DP5, and very inconsistent ones (making them difficult to track). I think someone has solved some of them with the new work-level controls: Work quanta, prime seconds, Max Work percent, etc. Maybe it was Magic Dave who managed to get those things tunedup to maximum efficiency. Whether or not that is a permanent fix is beyond me. Suffice to say that we're all learning and keeping an eye on this as things develop. I'm sure MOTU will get it stabilized.
Meanwhile, consider going to the thread on "Collecting data for the purpose of solving problems," and tell me about your system so I can put it in the database. We're looking for patterns to send to MOTU that will illustrate where the weaknesses might be found, so they can fix them. Good luck with it, and don't give up. We'll figure it out.

My dropouts occur after the auto-record end point. The existing (old) soundbite in the track takes awhile to be audible. Everything records fine, and plays back fine later, just drops out during the process. I monitor my live signal with direct audio patch thru, so there could be even more to this.

Damn those Drop Outs
I have had similar problems as well.
I bounced my tracks to disc, exported the track as an MP3 file using LAME, and emailed it over to England for a potential manager to hear.
Much to my dismay I found out (after the fact) that my song had 2 drop outs 3/4 of the way into the song. Now that's LAME!
I redid the bounce and checked it first before emailing again and it arrived in tact. Whew!
The other problem I had was edging some Kick Drum SoundBites.
the SBs that were visible on screen were edged as inended but the ones out of view became edged to the size of toothpick unintentionally.
Then it's "What the F**K? undo, undo ,undo...
WUWT?

I've had the same issues as well.....Audio playback just stops for 5 seconds then suddenly begins...or magically returns if I stop and restart the sequence. I've also had numerous BTD issues when opening 4.6 files in DP5........lots of dropouts in the bounces. I fixed it by opening the mixer, bypassing whatever plug-ins there are, then re-selecting the plug-in. Its almost like the plugs were asleep and DP5 didnt relaize they were there and left holes in the bounced audio where a plug-in would normally kick in...RC
I reverted back to DP4.5 and all those problems are gone... so it must be a DP5 problem as opposed to the current MOTU Audio driver... BTW I have installed the latest motu audio drivers...
I think DP5 is very stable but has so manny little bugs that it is not worth it for me to continue using at this time...

I have yet to buy 5. This is the kind of stuff I expected.
The fact that they promote an update and don't pre advise us on what to tune up on our systems or change is extremely disconcerting.
Their r&d should include known bugs with the release. If they know about this stuff, it's not fair. If they don't know then they should have held the release for more debugging IMO.

Even with 4.61, I'm finding that I can't do the sorts of things on the fly as I used to. Saving is probably the only thing which I can do anymore during playback that doesn't cause a problem.
With VI's, anything you change has to be loaded or reloaded before it can play back. This has been my hunch with some of these issues (still using 4.61 me-self).
I've just had to learn to stop playback a let DP sit for 3-4 seconds before making my next move while DP and the Mac do whatever they do under the hood. It's a pain, but it only happens when VI's are in use.
Now, if the dropouts happen during playback while nothing is being done on the fly, then that's a pretty darn serious issue which needs to be sorted out ASAP. There are enough other issues with DP5 that will keep me reading for a while longer before I make the upgrade.

That is my opinion, too, quincyg. I've noticed that most people using 3rd party hardware/drivers have no problems with DP. What a reversal over the old days!
