Constant kernal panics on DP 4.52

I'm using OSX 3.8, and DP 4.52, and I have a continual every five minute nasty noisy kernal panic problem. Nothing obvious to report in the crash logs. The computer works great in all its other programs.

I just lost a client over the continual computer issues, I gotta get this straightened out.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and DP program, installed a new PCI-424 card, run Disk Warrior, and I've just bought new RAM that I will install tomorrow, just in case it's bad RAM. Any other possible solutions/suggestions out there? Thanks.

reinstall the OS - sounds like a problem that goes deeper than a simple application issue.

Other than that - I would get Tech Tool Pro and do a total hardware check to rule out anything having gone physically wrong with your system (like the MoBo).

Curious......what are you using for a secondary audio hard-drive and two, do you have a hardware-accellerated DSP effects unit such as a UAD1 or a Powercore?

I'll get Tech Tool Pro to check and make sure its not hardware, I think if it was an OS problem I'd be having problems in other applications. I don't have a secondary audio hard drive, only one external drive that just stores Mach Five sounds, no secondary accelerated harddrive units, I don't really have an excessively complex system . I have a 2408, a 1224, and an Express XT.

It sounds like other people in this discussion are having similar problems. I've now zapped the PRAM, I'll be changing out my RAM when the new RAM arrives tomorrow. I'm putting in a 1GB kit, for what's listed below.

I'm going to run Disk Warrior again, and I'm waiting to see if the MOTU tech guy writes me back tomorrow. I couldn't get through to them by phone today. If anything I do works, I'll definitely post it, along with any helpful MOTU tech support feedback.

I have CueMix Console on my system. What about that? Or should that be disabled, along with the possibility of disabling Beat Detection.

I notice Core Audio messages showing up in the crash logs often. I do mostly straight MIDI work, and getting anything to work for more than five minutes would be great right about now. Any thoughts about doing something with that?

I'd be willing to bet you have a bunch of bad prefs. First you could make a new user (OS X) and see if you get the same error. If so, delete that user and look at the library (not the the system or yours). there are alot of prefs that can be trashed and rebuilt. It's complicated to explain but they are mosly in caches, application support, preferences folders. I only use a utilty as a real last resort. You can alkso dump any language and printing files you don't use. you can dump .cache files also. then do the same in your library.
anything that ends in .plist will be rebuilt upon reatart.
this is not for the faint of heart and if you have no experience, make a list of everything you do so you can undo it jic.

I wouldn't do a thing until you try that new ram. Out of spec (not even bad) ram is a major cause of kernal panics. Though software can sometimes cause them, hardware problems are usually the cause.

Yes, exactly! If you've already bought new ram, test it all out before doing other drastic maneuvers with OSX reinstalls etc.

Do you have your audio interfaces connected to a PCI-324 card? If so, you might want to upgrade it to a PCI-424 card, which may be a little expensive (I think it was a couple hundred dollars), but is very likely the root of your problem. (unless you're already using a 424)

Before I upgraded to the 424 I had frequent kernel panics, and several others here will tell you the same thing.
