Firepod

Post by Pimphish »

I am planning on buying DP 4.5 and am looking for a good Interface. I have read good reviews of PreSonus' Firepod. First does DP support it and has anyone used it that can offer their views on how good or bad it is?

Also, what other interfaces would yall recommend? I need at least 8 inputs.

I've not tried the Firepod with DP, but I have used the Firepod and it's a very good interface. However on the Mac when given the option, I always opt for MOTU hardware with DP...just kinda makes sense you know? :-)
Thank you,

I've got it - I like it - no driver issues as it uses the class level driver in Mac OS X. I do simple work with it (two tracks at a time, mostly) but it performs like a champ.

From what I understand, it won't work with other interfaces like MOTU's stuff. So, your expansion options would be limited. Maybe this isn't a problem for you.

From what I've read about 10.4, it will allow multiple Core Audio devices to appear as one device to all audio applications, so the compatiblity issue with other interfaces should disappear when Tiger hits the streets. Mix and match a Firepod with MOTU or RME or apparently any interface that talks to core audio. Nice, we'll have to see if the rumors are true in a few weeks.

Anytime you have a problem that you can't figure out, it's such a pleasure to tell the guy at MOTU that your audio interface is a MOTU ...

Troubleshooting is much more difficult for the helpers at MOTU when you are using someone else's product that they are not familiar with.

I use a MOTU 828MK2 with DP4.5 and everything is smooth sailin'

Try Metric Halo. I have a ULN-2 and it works really well with DP-4. The sound is superb.
