Sorry to get you confused...

I meant if I update to 10.3.9 & things get
natsy, I`ll need to do a reinstall and the System ID will
change and I`ll have to do the authorization process again.

BTW, you dont need to reauthorize just for updateing.

Thats why I wanted to know if, DP4.52 &
Kontakt2.01 & the Kompakt Based Sample Libraries are
working ok on OS103.9.

I might have found a problem with .9

I can't hot plug my Nikon camera now without a keboard and mouse freeze. If I unplug and replug my keboard with the Nikon on line it all comes back.

So far I have not had to reboot the machine and there have been no crashes.

Some of you who hot plug gear for DP should check and see if this happens to you since 10.3.9

Thanks,

Hmm, DP runs fine under 10.3.9, BUT the update seems to have fractured a lot of dependencies on some Java libs. Some of my other apps have stopped working and a UNIX guru that I know took a look at the system and said that it looks like the apps are not running because of either broken links to a java app or the Kernel trying to address something that doesn't exist. GREAT (sarcasm). So I guess I'm going to do a system re-install back to 10.3.8 and wait until Tiger comes out.

Cheers (gloom.....much time involved in re-installs)

Glmusic:
Maybe you should turn the question around - how come
they release Tiger so soon - close to the 10.3.9 release.

Mac OS-X have seen some 1400 patches and updates since it's first release. Wich clearly indicates an unfinished product.

The main reason I suspect for Apple's release of 10.4 Tiger,
is to be able to beat Microsoft's deadline/release of Longhorn.
Apart from the searchengine "Spotlight" and dashboard widgets,
the update to Tiger seems a minor one.

Eventual benefits from 64-bit adressing remains to be seen.
(I think Kris aka mastermix listed possible such in another thread somewhere)

It will take time for software to catch up.

I think Gibble is right ( or his Unix-guru ).
Limewire 4.8.1 doesnt work on my iMac after updating to 10.3.9.

Limewire is dependent upon the javalibs.

Yes the Java and Limewire broke but their are fixes that straighten it out.

If you installed 10.3.9 from any OSX version other than OS 10.3.8 then you have to run the combo updater first then the fixes below.

If you use an Audiomedia card DO NOT install 10.3.9. It will break that until Tiger brings it back.

Here are two:

For Java issues install this:

For limewire

Java works for me again with this work around.

1)
Boot from Panther 1:st CD to do a new install.
Choose to archive and preserve old settings.
After installation is complete (cd:s 1 & 2 usually)
2)
Install Combo updater 10.3.8.
3)
Reboot and apply Java 1.4.2v2 updater
4)
Reboot update from the system controlpanel
(for me 2 2004-security fixes plus 10.3.9 update
weighing in at 53,7 Mb about half the combo updater)

Doing it in this order seem to fix my java troubles. (Limewire starts up ok)

That's an extreme fix and although it works I didn't have to do all that.

So far I have had no problems at all. No Java issues (Limewire 4.8.1) No Safari issues. No firewire issues. No reauthorizing plugs, NI instruments any of my other VI's. DP 4.5.2 is running like a charm, but then again it always has. (Knock on wood)
What is so different from our systems at the root which would cause these varying results? How different is an iMac G4 to a PowerMac G4. I understand the hardware differences, but what about the software differences.
I could go on but you get the idea. I only bring this up because there seems to be so many inconsitencies from system to system. I do nothing more than anyone else when it comes to keeping my system well tuned, and yet no problems to report.
I feel for the people who have had The "MIDI stick problem" or the VST Wrapper that is not working properly, or the "sync problems" Ok now I'm getting a little teary eyed, so I'm going to get a kleenex and shut up.
Good Luck to everyone, and I will continue to chime in when I think I can help.

The firewire issue is the same one that's been reported for the past 5 updates. It's nothing new.

As Gary mentioned before, if you're updating from anything other than 10.3.8 you must download the combi installer from Apple. Don't use the smaller incremental updater (software update) or you may find you're missing some system components. Also, be sure to repair permissions before and after the update.

Hey Gary,

First, I want to say thanks for link. Now Safari and Java work together as expected.

I tried my Olympus C-5000 camera and it showed up as it should and I haven't had a freeze using it. I just thought I'd let you know.

Peace.

Well, I think I was on the right track, but it's software and not hardware (yet) Today Apple announced the new Pro Video package and it only runs on 10.3.9. So the update allows all of those who are not upgrading to Tiger to buy the new Pro Video suite. Some think that hardware will also be announced at NAB, but the software has already been announced and they are taking preorders on the Apple web store.
