trying to convert quantum leap brass Roland with UVIX
So, I have the QL Brass Roland discs. UVIX recognizes that they're Roland discs but won't admit to seeing any programs on them. Anyone else have this problem, or any suggestions?
Thanks,
m

I just finished converting the Kurzweil version of that title, and it converted over without a hitch.
Does it let you go down deeper in the structure to the preset level and test out a patch or two? Can you actually get to the samples?

Hrm. Looks like the discs are ok, at least; I went to a friend's place, installed the free demo version of Translator, and it could see the discs. The peoblem appears to be with UVIX.
Unfortunateely the Translator demo only processes the first patch on each disc, so unless I want to be out $150 for the whole thing I'm still stuck.

The Pro version of Translator on Windows will translate to MachFive format, and the source formats are comprehensive. Even though I have MachFive, I've found Translator Pro to be a lifesaver at times. If you buy Translator Pro, I believe that both Windows and Mac versions are included on the same disk, but the Windows version handles some of the more esoteric formats.
BTW, East-West charged you $150 for that title? They're on sale for $19 right now.

Sorry, I was unclear: I meant unless I wanted to be out the $150 for Translator then I'm stuck with a non-useful sample set. The QL Brass discs only set me back $20, though. Whew! I can't imagine having paid full price for them and then needing to drop another $150 to translate them!
I'm just debating whether I'm likely to use Trans. Pro for anything else, especially given that it's kind of a pain in the butt for me to get to use a PC. I'd essentially have to install it temorarily on someone else's box any time I wanted to use the program. The Mac version doesn't translate to Mach five, and from the look of their web site and forum it might never do so. I guess I'll look at my library of old samples and see if there's anything in there I'd just love to have back that would justify buying the program for a one-shot bonanza of translation.
I suppose my other option is to wait and see if M52 is any better at importing Roland samples.

According to this thread:

azusa749a got his/her Roland brass disks converted with no problem. You could try sending him a PM and see if there is some trick to using the Roland formatted disks.

mongoose and the others, I'd like to apologize about that post.
I was too enthused to share a good deal with all of you.
When I posted that I just finish converted the Strings CD ROM with no problem,
so I presumed all of them should work.
But for the Brass CD ROM, I had no time to do at that time because they come with 5 discs.
Last week I tried to convert the Brass CD ROM and it didn't work.
So I e-mailed soundsonline.com twice, and haven't got the answer yet.
All I got was an e-mail from the webmaster, Jennifer Collado;
I guess UVIX have a problem with the digital watermarks that are on the discs. (This is just my guess.)
The other Roland format disc (the strings) doesn't have it.
Again sorry about that. I'm still out for $19.95 too. I should have bought the other format instead.

I can confirm that the Kurzweil version of Quantum Leap Brass does convert over to MachFive. I converted all five discs on Friday (and the Kurz version also has the "digital watermarks", whatever those are supposed to be??).

Please don't apologize -- I saw your thread and was so happy to take advantage of the clearance deals. I don't have Mach 5, but do have a Roland (got the strings) and an Emu sampler (got the Brass) still, so I expect to be very happy.azusa749a wrote:mongoose and the others, I'd like to apologize about that post.
OTOH per billf it looks like the Kurzweil format will translate to Mach5 if the Roland doesn't. so if worse comes to worse, an another mere $20.00 bucks for the Kurzweil format and you are home free.

yea i got the akai 5000 format and I am having problems converting it using cdxtract. I don't have machfive so I wanted to covert it into NNXT format which is the sampler in reason. It seems that cdxtract is not seeing the sample files. Its almost like they are not wav or aiff files. it sees the disk but just converts the programs i think and not the samples cause it doesn't know where to find em?
Errrrrrr.

S-5000 can be copied if you first copy the sample CD, the one with the number to a HD and then use UVI. It can not be copied using UVI directly from the CD.
So far I have not had any problems.
Are any of the samples looped since i do not have any loops so far.

That is odd. I get one sample CD immage with a number and one CD immage called audio with a junk file on it.
10.4.6 on a dual G5 (running Swedish
language... it is not a language thing it can open in English too.) I checked the iMac and it opens it in the same manner.
Do we have differnt OS?
Edit: This is the Quantum Leap Brass S-5000 discs.
