Post by devdotcom »

I've heard the rumor that you buy buy a windows version of DP 5. Is this true?

God, I hope so! I'm tired of being a slave to Apple's ridiculously over-priced computers!!!!

If that's your sole criteria for building a DAW, then there are lesser alternatives on the software side as well.

No. You could buy one equally configured decent name brand PC w decent components and a warranty and tech support for the price of a Mac.

Yr fud is out of date.

yeah... Its consolidated all the windows into one!

No but seriously... When you said "I've heard the rumor that you buy buy a windows version of DP 5. Is this true? "

Its the "buy buy" bit you got wrong - you only have to 'buy' it once its 1/2 the price then.

really!

From a business standpoint, MOTU would make a lot more money if they hada Windows version.

They haven't even got it working on OSX yet - and you want a port? Damn!

XP is pretty stable though... would be nice. There are some sweet coreduo windows laptops- not to mention all the formidable subnotebooks ;-)

Apple's overpriced hardware and draconian DRM are a constant problem.

I own like everything - and the Macbook Pro is nice- but I still carry a sony around with me as well.

I have heard though that they have a pseudo-running version in Windows - and this was a couple of months ago, so if this is true, then it would probably be much closer now.

I think MOTU would kick ass if they did this. Too bad they didn't have it before - they could have picked up the pieces after Logic's demise. Would have been great marketing - instant customers!

Maybe one of us should just buy MOTU and make it happen ;-)

What "draconian DRM" does Apple have? I have the entire Final Cut Studio, and there's no DRM or dongles. Just a serial number like DP.

You do know that Microsoft is coming out with it's own music DAW, right? And you do know what tends to happen when Microsoft combines their own application software with Windows, right?

Draconian DRM... see LOGIC - also, see iTunes.

The speculation I've heard is Cakewalk.

Only Logic Pro. That's a legacy from e-Magic. Apple has not done the same thing with their other pro apps.

As for iTunes, the DRM there is far less draconian than Windows Media. At least with iTunes you can backup the music store songs as AIFF files. Not to defend DRM, but the term "draconian" is a bit strong dontcha think?
