I probably will (to replace my 17" G4), but definitely not until late this year at the soonest. Too many apps yet that aren't Universal Binary. I use my Powerbook for my graphics business as well as for recording, and I can't afford to be troubleshooting or waiting on it very often.
8-core i9 MacBookPro 16-inch, 16gb ram, Catalina, Focusrite Scarlett 18i8, DP not installed yet
My PB 17" G4 is only a year old. Because I don't "really" record on it or do any serious audio other than loading one or two reference audio files in DP, the urgency to deal with the waning days of the G5 towers is more of a pressing issue.
However, the new PB 17" does boast some serious performance upgrades. The Universal issue is worthy of some patience if certain audio apps are being considered for serious use. By the time I'm ready for a new PB (early '07?), I hope these issues will be well sorted out. Plus it will be interesting to see how the Intel chips will rack up an impressive performance history as it wins hearts and minds of its users. I'm going to at least wait to see what happens with the OSX Leopard.

Most excellente Frodoman.
I think I will wait about a year. The 42NM chips will be here soon enough: http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1708 and I can certainly kick this old 1.67mhz PB for a while too.
Cheers

Interestingly, in Macworld's tests of Logic Pro on the 2.0 ghz Mac Book, they said it compared favorably with a G5 desktop

<snip>
It••™s also telling that a 2GHz MacBook Pro could play much of the demo content included with Logic Pro that••™s tantalizingly labeled ••œG5 only.••

Clever and interesting post, 'loo.
Of course, we are comparing PB's to PB's at the moment. (I've omitted the word "only" from the previous sentence, considering the specs.) But, I can't ignore the image of the Mac-faithful salivating out of control when the new tower specs are released. These are always a tad ahead of the PB's.
Still, the new PB Pro is devastatingly promising as a harbinger of even better things to come. No matter what, I'd like to think of the RAM slots as being half full!!
