I've had nothing but great tech experience from them.. Sorry if yours was not so good...
I also had a 828mkII that would go offline and go blank... MOTU was super prompt at fixing it and returning it to me next day air.. I don't know what it would take to Oz...
When the unit was returned to me, the version number was 1.01.., What does yours say when you boot it up?

You might want to copy your last post and create a new topic there in the hardware forum. I can't be of much help to you because you're running Windows and really this whole board was pretty much intended as a Macintosh-oriented resource. I know there are a lot of Windows users who frequent the Hardware Forum.

That is interesting. Mine is 1.0 for both firmware and hardware. I wonder if the extra .01 is all the difference. I know that people have posted here before with the LCD problem and they were told by MOTU that they were aware that a batch of 828MKII's went out with defective LCDs and were offering free replacements or repairs. That was quite awhile ago. Alas, MOTU never admitted that this was a known problem to me nor did they offer any free repairs.

i think that these threads are acctualy really useful. Not for the pre-existing motu useres and die hard defenders of the unicorn, but for people like me who investigate equipment and need all kinds of feedback. It was thanks to the threads like this that i was given the insight to avoid motu. I generally get a bad vibe from the company and products. No doubt someone will ask for reasons, which i can provide readily.

It's stuff like this that always amazes me. So we have someone lurking on this site ready to explain why they DON'T use DP. The site is essentially for folks with PROBLEMS with DP but the actual users of the program are generally very happy with it. It works.pieninja wrote:i think that these threads are acctualy really useful. (I don't think there is a Sunshine-Up-MOTUs-Butt.com, is there?)
I don't begrudge others their opinions. If they HATE steamed broccoli then let them eat it fried. DP has developed into a first class application and many use it INSTEAD of pro tools or Logic (let's not even talk about PCs).
So, getting back to pieninja, what I would like to know is NOT why you don't use DP, but WHAT you have found as a better alternative and how it is more useful or functional? I am truly interested because productivity is key and if I can be more productive I will certainly look at other programs, and I have. They just aren't out there as far as I can tell.

People post to help boards when they are having troublepieninja wrote:It was thanks to the threads like this that i was given the insight to avoid motu.
People post to Gripe boards when they want to gripe and spew vitriol, for whatever reason.
So these boards are weighted towards people that want to spew or are having trouble.
The people who aren't having trouble aren't posting thread after thread about how well thier MOTU systems are working. No doubt this is the majority of people . . . for them MOTU's vibes are damn good.

It seem that this is like going to a car dealer's shop/repair area and refusing to buy a car from them because of all the broken cars up on lifts.pieninja wrote:i think that these threads are acctualy really useful. Yeah - my screen on the 828 would just go blank and it would lose connection with my laptop (Mac).Atardecer wrote: That is interesting. Mine is 1.0 for both firmware and hardware. I wonder if the extra .01 is all the difference.
Fortunately, the 828mkII was under warranty so all I had to pay for was to ship it to them...
Promptly, they sent me another unit. Is should be noted that the unit returned to me was not the same as I had sent...
Good Luck

Well it looks as though i just happened to get a lemon. This problem also occurs when the unit is not even attached to the computer so it has nothing to do with my setup. It looks as though i have a suspect PSU or a capacitor is going haywire...
very disappointing. It took 4 months for the LCD to burn out and under a year for the PSU or whatever to screw up. That is shoddy workmanship. I would have expected better durability from MOTU, but i guess thats why they offer such a bad warranty. Now i have to pay for international postage AND repairs because of MOTU's ridiculous policy that they wont allow repairs to be done anywhere other than in the US. Might as well just buy a different card...
Well, if i have managed to dissuade at least one potential customer from buying this piece of junk then my work here is done. BTW, posting gripes is quite important. If i had known about this forum there's no way i would have bought one of these and i would have saved myself so much trouble...

Ah, then your work is done. I have absolutely decided not to buy an 828mkII. I have a 1296, a 2408mkII, and an 896, and I might get a Traveller next time. Or the HD192.Atardecer wrote:Well, if i have managed to dissuade at least one potential customer from buying this piece of junk then my work here is done.

I think when he refers to equipment, he doesn't mean sw like dp and also so far this thread has been all about the motu hw.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:It's stuff like this that always amazes me. I have a traveler and though the first unit was soon acting up and had to be changed, this new one has been working well. In a couple of weeks the unit will be returned from black lion audio with the analog stage and clock mods so I'll no longer be dealing with motu with repairs and the unit has cost me about the price of a fireface but I'm still relatively happy with it. The traveler has features that are really nice, I just hope it'll function as intended.Atardecer wrote:By all means shooshie, go ahead and get a traveller. Hey, its your funeral...
