DP can't record
Hope there's someone out there that will help me. I've been struggling with this for 2 days and am about to give up. I'm using DP 4.6. Just got my new Motif ES but can't get DP to record from it. I'm using song mode on Motif with the intention of using the Motif multi-timberally. I've got everything else working meaning I can see that DP is recognizing Motif, receiving and sending from it, yet when I record nothing happens - no notes/data recorded. I was using my MIDI Express but switched to an M-Audio interface then downloaded and installed Yamaha's USB driver and switched to a USB cable. Still no recording. Same results with all three interfaces - DP doesn't record. No such problems with my Korg Triton and DP. How do I get this thing working? Really frustrating! And do I have to use a USB cable to use Motif to computer sequencer??? I'd rather use MIDI cables and MIDI Express for now. Thanks for helping with this headache!
DP can't record
Thanks so much for responding. Yes, I've checked all cables and settings. Everything is working fine except when I put DP into record mode it is not recording MIDI notes from the Motif (mine is a MotifES 6). By working fine I mean I can playback the Motif ok from an already recorded track in DP; I can see Motif patches, the Motif is recognizing patch changes sent from DP; I've changed MIDI cables and also used the same cables and settings with my Triton to make sure they are all working; I've also gotten everything working (except recording) using the To Host from the Motif directly into the MAC after installing the Yamaha USB driver. DP recognizes the Motif, no problem. I assigned it correctly in the MIDI/audio settings too.Noella wrote:I have a Motif 7 connected to a MOTU MIDI timepiece. Everything is working fine for me. I can record MIDI info. Check your configuration is correct and everything is plugged into where they are suppose to be. Also check your MIDI cable.
Any further help/ideas will be much appreciated. All I want to do is write some music using my new keyboard!!

Try making sure that the Motif is transmitting on the MIDI channel that DP is expecting to hear from. I know nothing about the Motif, but you mentioned song mode, and sometimes these special 'modes' use a certain unexpected method to do their thing. Since all your interfaces are giving the same result, I'd be looking more closely at what and where the Motif is sending.

DP can't record from Motif
Hi - thanks again for responding. Yes, I have everything set to send and receive on MIDI channel 1. Song mode is how one uses the Motif as a multi-timbre instrument. I have track 1 of the "song" set to send and receive on channel 1 as well as the the keyboard send and receive.
I've posted this issue to the motificator.com forum. Just thought there would be a lot of people on this forum using DP and this keyboard who could respond here too. I can't believe that Yamaha has made it so difficult to be compatible with one of the major sequencers on the market. They even have to have their own USB driver??? What's that all about?
Maybe I need to change the subject name on this forum to include the name Motif...
Thanks again so much.

You have your MIDI set-up wrong. In Audio/MIDI setup -
set the Motif ES to send on a channel DIFFERENT from what your other hardware keyboards transmit channels are set to. and receive on ALL channels. For example, if your Triton is set to transmit on channel 1 then the Motif's transmit channel should be 2. Make SURE you have your Motif's MIDI connections set correctly in Audio/MIDI setup.
Set DP to "Auto-channelize".
Go to your Motif ES and set the transmit channel to the same as it is in your audio/MIDI setup. If it's "3" in Audio/MIDI setup, then set your transm it channel to "3" on the Motif ES itself. Set its "receive" channel to ONE CHANNEL HIGHER. So if it's transmitting on "3", set RECEIVE to "4".
This doesn't affect multi-timbral setup because in a song mix template, each track corresponds to a different MIDI channel, 1-16.
Now when you set a MIDI track to "Motif ES' in DP, you should be able to click once on the track to open a drop-down list of receive channels - and you should see all 16. If your drums are on MIDI channel 10, then selecting "Motif 10" will cause you to trigger the drums from your keyboard.
See, what you've forgotten is that the MIDI data doesn't play back on one channel for all parts in your song. Each track in the song is on a separate MIDI channel.
Going back to why I told you to set the MIDI transmit and receive channels differently on the ES itself - this is the way you want it in VOICE mode. So if you're just triggering the ES in voice mode, you want to avoid a MIDI loop. If you have the transmit and receive channels the same, in VOICE mode, you run the risk of doubled MIDI notes, doubled controllers, etc.

Quick reply - only read your first post at top......
First of all on my setup very occasionally my micro express has a mental block - if I look in DP's MIDI monitor the channel indicators are greyed out well actually 'greened out' I suppose.
A reboot or micro express off and on again usually does the trick!
The other thing which happend a couple of days ago ..... basically I was helping a friend who's fastlane was not working (although it was recognized and apparently (according to its leds) receiving/transmitting).
Anyway, in audio MIDI set up in MIDI tab clicking on the interface to bring up info and we saw 'device is online' box unchecked. It wasn't the usb cable though.
What we ended up doing was reinstalling the MIDI interface drivers and rescaning devices and it all worked fine after that. It created a fastlane no.2 icon in a/m setup so we just deleted the old one and renamed it. Still don't know what it was (not my set up anyway) but who cares it worked.
Probably no help to you - but thought I'd menton.

Infinity - as I mentioned in my motifator.com/motiforum response, be sure to get out of the USB connection setup and go back to MIDI only. Disconnect the Motif from the USB cable, remove the cable from your setup and put it in a drawer somewhere.
Then be sure to set your Motif ES to MIDI - press
UTILITY
F5 MIDI
SF4 OTHER
MIDI In/Out = MIDI
Also, local control should be set to "off" for the Motif ES. Press
UTILITY
F5 MIDI
SF2 SWITCH
LocalCtrl = off
Then be sure to set your Motif ES to MIDI - press

DP can't record from Motif
As strange as it may sound, I was able to get this resoslved by just opening the Yamaha USB driver panel and then closing it. I saw another posting on this site with a similar problem and resolution.
Thanks to those who offered help.
